They have already sounded out O’Neil, Van Gall and Souness, and been knocked back by all three, despite what you may read in the papers. McLeish has said yes in principle I like the idea of Curbuishley (His brother managed The Who you know - a very _dodgy geezer_) The next two games are saints and Man City, who, in a free and just society, we should beat like ginger step-children. Losses to them will lead to the chop. If that there Spogga chap is here; Oi! your lot have only given us 1500 tickets! poor show! I know that THFCv MCFC is a cat one game but even so. I wanted to see your new stadium (the only one in the top two divisions I’ve never been to). At least its on the box. ---

I hope you don’t expect a “ba-dum-tssschhh” for that. In actual football news, my lot had our first win of the season - a fun-packed 4-0 against the legions of Peter Reid. Our set-pieces were crummy in the first half-hour and I was somewhat concerned, but Nalis and Dickov came through with two brilliant individual goals before half time. We were helped along by the fact that the Leeds defence didn’t appear to have been introduced prior to the match. There seems to have been a reason why they got Roque Junior on a free… Must keep getting the results to stay at least on the weak side of mid table through the autumn. We have Liverpool on Sat and ManU next week. If we’re awake, we could get a draw against Liverpool. ---

does anyone watch the games with the Fanzone commentary on? the Foxes- dirty Leeds game was great. After the first goal, the Leicster fan was screaming for about two minutes, and then said “1-0! You’re crying into your hovis, son”. classic. ---

I don’t know if anyone ever heard the NE radio commentry when Malcolm McDonald used to be the “expert” commentator. This was when he drank a bottle of scotch a day. He is a world class swearer. ---

I’m sure I’m the only person in Britain who remembers Terry Venables aiming for the World Sports Commentator Swearing award. Remember Manchester United bearing Bayern Munich in injury time a few years back? Matthaus in tears and all that malarkey? I’m absolutely convinced that the camera went briefly back to the studio, where the pundits were all celebrating, and when asked his opinion on the result Venables gleefully said, “Lucky cunts!”. ---

Wow, this thread is heavy with Sp\*rs fans. ptoooie! Amazing to read all you have to say about Arsenal seeing as you’ve fuck-all recently. Arsenal a bunch of cheats? Please… I kow you’re biased and tend to see Arsenal through shite-tinted glasses, but let’s face it, they play hard, they get away with some stuff, but definitely not any more the ManUre. They were mid-table on the discipline charts last year. And don’t go gloating if Arsenal doesn’t play well today against Inter. You have to QUALIFY for the Champion’s League first, then you can gloat. ---

Yup I’d go along with that, **Ivar** even though I dislike Arse only slightly less than Manure. Rottenham have had more promised comebacks than a Beatles get together, and still haven’t turned up the goods. We’ll possibly get a relegation battle, which at least has more passion than ‘boring housing estate, middle of the road, average, as interesting as unflavoured blancmange’ mid table nothingness. If a team wins or loses mid table and no one notices, did it happen ? Who cares? We are going nowhere (only if we are fortunate) and still folk hate us for events 30 years ago, maybe you should move on to modern times, and bring your team with you, at least hate us for something slightly more recent. Of course, no other team at all ever cheated even just a tiny bit during the '70’s did they ? Doesn’t make Leeds any more right, but put their gamesmanship into context, I remember a certain Chelsea defender who was absolutely notorious (Collins ?) there were plenty of others. ---

Hell, most of the US is ManUre territory. But I do know several Arsenal fans here in town, and most of the ManUre fans at the pub are new fans who are just glory hunters, with no sense of the history of the game, guys who probably can’t name more than five other clubs currently in the Prem. The same guys who all just bought Real shirts… I’m not claiming to have been a fan my whole life, but I followed DB10 to Arsenal from Inter back in 1995 and have been hooked ever since. And I know the history of my club, I’ve travelled to London just to go to Highbury. Frankly, I could give a rat’s ass about the rivalry with Tottenham. I even had a guy yell at me from his car here in Minneapolis, while I was wearing my Arsenal kit. He yelled, in his British accent, “Arsenal’s the worst team in London!” I yelled back, “At least I’m not a Spurs fan!” He seemed quite surprised at my reply, given my American accent. When it comes right down to it, I like them because they have a great international make-up of players, they play beautiful footie, and because Dennis Bergkamp is god. By the way, Arsenal is getting their asses handed to them by Inter. It’s 3-0 to Inter at 41’. Obviously we are still having problems competing in Europe. Another CL campaign off to a shitty start. ---
