I created a car club for SDMB Forza 4 players;

You can drive any of the cars in my shared garage in races or even just driving around in Hot Lap mode (i think)

Heavily modified Ferarri F40 (1,094 HP, 774 TQ) “Evil F40” (basically a maxed out F40 with the V12 from the Enzo)

Lightly modded Bugatti Veyron 16.4 (race lightening, race tires, biggest wheel size), and it _STILL_ handles like a house made of lead…

Cubsfan, don’t worry about skill level, if you have Forza 4 and want to join the club, feel free to join
This club is more a casual club than anything, if you just want to take one of the shared garage cars for a leisurely spin in Free Play Hot Lap (just you against the clock, unlimited laps), go right ahead
On the other side, if you want to challenge other club members to a race, that’s good too
Oh, and I added my lightly-modded Ferrari F40 (stickier/bigger tires) to the shared garage too, so you can compare a nearly stock F40 to a modded Monster of a car

Oh, and I just discovered a new feature of the game that will _significantly_ change my racing strategy…
Just like Forza 3, you gain both Driver Experience levels (skill ratings) and Car Reputation points, in F4, these points are referred to as “Affinity Bonuses”, as you spend more and more time with a particular manufacturer (Ferrari, for example) they give you a small amount of bonus credits after a race, _BUT_ they _ALSO_ give you a parts discount, which, if you spend enough time with a particular manufacturer, can be up to 100% discount, yes, that’s right, spend enough time courting your favorite car manufacturer, and winning races, and you can end up getting _FREE_ upgrade parts…
\*boy, for a guy who “hates Ford”, I seem to have a lot of their vehicles, don’t I? 😉

Ok. I just got this game (beefchips). I suck horribly at these things. What setting do I need to change to keep myself from smashing into walls when I take tight turns? I absolutely hate using crutches on video games but I smash into walls like crazy on these things.

Honestly, **Cubsfan** , the best thing to do is _practice_…
First recommendation?
IGNORE the Career mode until you get the basics of car control down, go to Free Play, and choose “Hot Lap”
In Hot Lap, you have an unlimited amount of laps, and access to all the standard cars and tracks in the game, you can practice in this mode to your hearts content, heck, I spend more time in Hot Lap than anything, trying to beat my best time, it’s good practice
select a low powered car, lets say a [“Gutless Wonder”](http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?t=638959) and a favorite track, and just _practice_, start slow, learn the way the car behaves, learn the track inside and out, once you have a familiar car and track, you’ll see your performance improve
Keep this in mind, Forza is a driving _simulator_, not a “racing game”, if you simply mat the throttle and plow through corners, you won’t do well, you have to learn to “feather” the gas and brake, think of your right trigger finger as your right foot on the gas pedal, and your left foot on the brake pedal, your left thumb on the left thumbstick would represent your hands on the wheel
it’s best to start off on a flat racetrack, like the Top Gear Test Track, or a banked oval like the High Speed Ring, just to get the basics of car control down
F4 has rather accurate physics, especially with the “Nannies” turned off, but a novice driver can get good use of the nannies until they get the basics of the game down
as far as taking corners at speed, the mantra is “Slow In Fast Out”…
As you enter the corner, apply some braking force, this shifts the weight of the car forward, over the steering wheels, giving them more grip, as you reach the apex of the turn, you can start to accelerate out of it, shifting weight back towards the rear wheels (good for rear wheel drive vehicles, less so for front wheel drive)
Good starter cars to learn handling? (FWD- front drive, RWD- rear drive, AWD- all wheel drive, MRD- Mid-engine rear drive)

Ford KA (FWD)
Ford Pinto (RWD) hey, don’t laugh, aside from it’s “explosive” reputation, it actually handles pretty well

Lotus Elan Sprint (RWD)
Volvo 242 Turbo Evolution (RWD) It’s boxy, but it’s good… 😉

**Cubsfan** I hope you are figuring out the driving. One thing that makes a huge difference is choosing the view that makes you most comfortable.
I prefer the view with the hood of the car (and no dash). It lets me know if the car is doing what I want it to or not (ie is the hood pointed where I want it?) and gives me a larger view of the track with no clutter from the dash.
I absolutely cannot drive well at all from the exterior tail-chase view. Some people love this view but for me it means nothing but chaos.
Experiment with every view available and see which one works best for you. It can make a bigger difference than you think.

I’ve always been torn when it comes to views. The cockpit view is certainly the coolest view but obscures too much of the road for my tastes. I find the third person view to be the easiest because it gives the largest view of the path ahead, but the third person view significantly reduces the sense of speed and makes the cars feel like RC cars instead of real ones.
I played a while last night and finished the opening series with a Chevy Spark. I basically just chose “Medium” for difficulty, which leaves alot of the assists on and thought I was doing well with that. I didn’t realize it was brake assisting me though until I saw my tail lights come on in a turn when I wasn’t hitting the brakes. I don’t like that so I’ll have to turn it off today and see how I’m REALLY doing.

I’m just reviewing my garage for the SDMB Stigs car club, and here’s how I’d rate them;
Best cars for a beginner;
Suzuki Liana GLX (Top Gear’s old Reasonably Priced Car)
Kia cee’d (Top Gear’s current RPC)
Lotus Elan Sprint (good intro to rear wheel drive, but can be a tad tail-happy if you goose it in the corners)
Abarth Fiat 500
BMW 2002 Turbo
Basically, go by the car “Class”, F class to D class are good beginner cars, C to B are intermediate and A to R3/2/1 are expert
However, if you feel you must try out my Crazy Pinto (and you really must, it’s a hillarious car 🙂 ), feel free to do so, but be careful, this Pinto loves to buck it’s rider off at the slightest provocation

I’d love to join, but first I have to figure out why the damn game is not working. Oh, it runs, I’ve heard Jeremy Clarkson’s monologue 5 times now, but for some reason the accelerator button does not work when I load the game with my XBox live profile. I deleted the mandatory update 3 times thinking that was the problem, but it wasn’t. Also, it works with a non-XBox Live capable profile.
I’m at a loss. When I figure out what the problem is I’m in. If I ever do.

Really liking this game alot. I know it’s puss but the medium setting tricks me into thinking I’m really driving and keeps me competitive so I’m okay with it. My son loves mustangs and is driving around LeMAns ina souped up mustang right now on easy.
How can we race each other?
