Damn, a new pops in for _my_ thread! Which sets do you have complete, Mauve? I’ve just won an auction for a _Legends_ Abyss, and thereby completed my set. It’s up on eBay as soon as I get all the cards in by mail. Full sets from _Legends_ to _Urza’s Destiny_, and a fair amount of junk from the sets before. ---

And I may be new…but I’m mostly harmless 🙂 ---

I’m Dogsbody, and I’ve been a gamer for…um…fifteen years? I think… 1. AD&D. As mentioned before, I still play this game as often as I can. At the moment I’m playing a half-elf, 1/4 panther 1/4 human in Sigil (don’t ask, she’s the child of another of my characters who is retired now); and an elf with a split-personality in a home generated game. As far as anecdotes only this springs immediately to mind(explanation upon request): “An elf, a human, seven vampires, a gargoyle, a mule and THIRTY FIVE RABBITS?” 1. Deadlands. In which a Slayer, her Watcher, a Catholic Priest and my trigger-happy Pinkerton Agent conspired to save the Northern states, and we met Nietzshe, who got very upset when I took some pot-shots at a Dragon’s eggs… Quote: “Sounds like the Father just got Lucky with the Lord!” I’ve played others, but these two are current. And I can’t take the Hero System. I’ve played it, but it always seems to result in me saying “wake me when it’s my 2 seconds to act.” We once had a two minute fight take 4 hours to complete. ---

I played Amber DRPG in various incarnations for over three years online. Urgh. Thankfully it’s all over now. Fallout 1 & 2, Baldur’s Gate/Planescape are the best CRPG’s out there, until someone manages to pull something off on the scale of Daggerfall, but with their quality and intensity. THAT, I would like to see. Perhaps I’ll enlist my programmer friends and do it myself one of these days, with enough money… I should mention the fruits of Looking Glass, Thief 1 & 2 and the System Shock series, are addictive RPG’s in their own right. ---

I love roleplaying. Unfortunately, I have only managed to get in one group and have a hard time finding materials where I live (Boondocks, USA). Most of my roleplaying is online and “free form,” where you just make up a character using whatever you want and go for it. I have a rifts-based nightbane character, an elf, and my absolute favorite character of all time, Mooky the Malkavian vampire. She (yes, she, I do play characters of the other sex) is just too funny for words. 🙂 I’d like to get into more games, but I just can’t find the materials around here. – Sylence ---

Well, I read everybody’s response, and I’m apalled. ONE of you “gamers” is a wargamer? That’s okay, DRY, we can whip 'em all. Or at least inflict massive casualties on their horde as they bear us down with their weight of numbers. Can you see it, DRY? We’re standing back-to-back, last cartridges going in, bayonets fixed, and no way out. The inevitable last rush of barbarians washes over us. A furious spasm of desperate close-in fighting, and then the Regiment is gone, our passage marked by bloody snow and gunsmoke. Oh, alright, I admit it: I’ve played non-historical games, too. Even liked some of 'em. But history gets me off, and I’d rather deal with 12-pounders than fireball spells. LOVE miniature tabletop games, especially Bill-and-Bow, Pike-and-Shot, Horse-and-Musket, Rifle-and-Sabre, Soldiers-of-the-Queen. (That’s Medieval, Renaissance, Napoleonics, Civil War and Colonial periods for you non-grognards.) Board games, too, but it’s a bitch to get one going anymore, so I haven’t played one for years. Except for my favorite game in this category: “Diplomacy”. I would rather play this than do any other activity that doesn’t involve gittin’ nekkid. (Hey…“Strip Co-ed Nekkid Diplomacy”…gonna give that one some serious thought…) “Nuclear War”, Nuclear Escalation" and Nuclear Proliferation" are GREAT card games. I can get my non-gamer buds to play a round or two of that. These days, I go in for computer wargames. Just about anything except for “Command & Conquer” and its clones. The only Real-time games I like tend to be historical in nature: Sid Meier’s “Gettysburg!”, and the newly-released “Shogun: Total War”. (Anybody wanna play sumpin’ by e-mail? Tell me what you’ve got, I’ll see if I’ve got a copy and we’ll get it on.) And I dabbled in computer RPGs a little, too. Both “Fallout” games were cool. ANY LucasArts title is sure to be excellent. (Check out the “Monkey Isle” series; VERY good.). ---

Sylence, about half the characters I play are female. While the mental permutations can be interesting to perform, they are simply another part of the roleplaying experience. No lobotomy jokes please, I am simply saying different requirements are needed. ---

the only problem with nuke war is that the later expansions were too heavy on certain cards. We like to play with ALL the cards (2 stacks 6 inches high) and secrets and delta clippers overrun the game. we had a player eliminated by secrets before the game even started and I would often discard a delta clipper to keep you guessed it another delta clipper ---

What? Only 1 (ONE?) person mentioned Diablo? That game rocks! The V&K Hellfire mods are the best. I used to spend hours playing on Kali with a friend. I just can’t wait until Friday, when Diablo II comes out. It’s about damn time! ---

I’ve never played the original Diablo, but after being selected for the Diablo II Stress Test I’m hooked on Diablo II. I’ve got it pre-ordered on Gamestop. Can hardly wait. And to the person who asked, TI graphing calculators are commonly used in high school and college. They are used to manipulate matrices, equations, graphs, plots, among many other things (like playing games :)). ---

Do ANY of you remember the really early D and D boxed sets with CHITS? (You drew chits instead or rolling 20 or 10 sided dice) What about the “%liar” tables? Dry - maybe. But then again, it’s nice to know that T$R was consistent in not hiring a copyeditor. After all, in the most recent books (the “Players Option” series), we had the following two statements: To determine the dewizard done,… (Yes, that should have been damage, but someone did a s&p without verifying) and an entire section devoted to a description of the marital arts. 😃 ---
