I think the SDMB is one of the few places on the net which is genuinley funny. Crappy chat rooms etc that cater to inane, boring people laughing at fart jokes are ten a penny. This is a place where genuine wit exists in abundance. **Themis** why do you waste your time moaning about this board? Why not just find another board more suited to your ‘humour’ and leave quietly? ---

Most of us read the boards because we want to know what really happened, what is really happening, what will happen next, how something works, why it doesn’t work, how to make it work; we want to hear what others say about a piece of art and share what we feel about it; we come here because we have information to share and questions to ask and a hope that somewhere on the board is a person who can ask a question to which we have the informative answer and someone who has the information that will answer the question that we ask; we come here because we may not always agree with the opinions of the people on the board on subjects like politics, religion, or sex, we can at least discuss them with other people who know how to discuss them in a civil way; and we don’t get 3 confused with E or 7 confused with T or # confused with H; and even when things become uncivil we have a special compartment for discussing things in an uncivil way and even _that_ forum has rules; and because we have wonderful board admins who make sure things run as smoothly as the hamsters will allow. If your definition of “exciting person” is someone who stirs up antagonism to no good purpose – someone who sees a class and thinks we need a clown – someone who has nothing to say but takes pride in his manner of saying it – then there isn’t much that person will add to this forum. Well, being just a newbie here still (I joined a week ago)… I think this place is full of exciting, interesting, witty, intelligent and fun people. OK, ok, I know I’m only new and I haven’t yet strolled through every topic, thread and post (but who the hell would have! This place is massive!) … but from what I’ve experienced so far - I’m having an absolute hoot! I LOVE this place! It seems to be a forum which has no real extremes… just a nice ambience. There ARE exciting members. No doubt there are also the bothersome ones as well. Thankfully I haven’t come across any as yet. I can’t stand forums where all you read is constant mindless comments that really offer nothing else. Sorry moderators, I hope you don’t mind, but at this stage, I’ll be staying around in here for a little longer yet! 🆒 ---
