SDMB is safe because ultra-fervent expressions of personal animosities towards the proclivities and personalities of others are consigned to Pittdom and fervent expressions of political and religious witnessing are relegated to GD, all, under the unbiased eye of mods, our sergeants-at- arms.
And GQ is our altar for honest questions laid upon in hope of honest answers to everyday challenges and curiosities. Sometimes it takes but 5 minutes to put someone’s mind to rest, to put his life in order and make him (in his humble mind) worthy of sofatime. A very useful service and one my uncle [del]Lenin[/del] Cecil both endorse.
I could go on but you get the idea. Film critics to idle hypothesizers about anything are welcome here. Just be nice.
So, how can I be nice?

We’re running out of Oil. Fifty years from there will be no USA.

I’m pretty sure that fifty years from now we’ll be fine. I’ll be in a senior center somewhere annoying my children with regular phone calls and annoying my grandchildren with five dollar birthday checks.

The USA is a political construct which attempts to impose uniform “national” concerns on numerous bio-regions and local cultures to the detriment of all. Without oil, the USA does not exist.

Well, Old-timer, maybe you can help me. Did the United States exist in the 19th century?
You don’t depend on oil for your electricty. And while your TV might be made of plastic manufactured from petrochemical feedstock today, who says it has to be made out of plastic? It’s not like there’s a law of physics that says TV cases have to be made out of plastic.
