> If Peeker ALWAYS posts like this, it’s a null tell for him. It may not be helpful, but voting to punish players is generally a bad strategy for any given game.

Yes, his obscurantist style is typical for him. But that style is anti-Town. It makes it more difficult to understand him: harder to get his points, harder to converse with him, harder to find slips. Mafia is difficult enough as is; players who intentionally make it harder are not helping.

Since I’m not seeing anyone who has a strong enough scum flavor for me to vote for them, I’m willing to remove players who are being anti-Town.

> This doesn’t sound like a limitation if **Nanook** is scum because he can easily make the endgame. If he is town or PFK then it is a huge limitation. The next questions to ask is if a town player would have a power that would need that kind of balancing, I tend to think no which leave PFK so I’m happy with my vote.

But what about Pleo’s plan to simply let him die via modkill? Why spend a lynch if we don’t have to?

Hmm, this is rather ambiguous. It’s difficult to determine what information about a dead player is detrimental to their team.

But I still don’t think it applies to **Nanook** , since his death due to no votes is a rules mechanic rather than a rules breach.

If he were pro-town, don’t you think he’d reveal his super power? We are at 48+ hours (overtime) and Nanook is willing to take his secret to the grave as more and more votes pile on him.

Second, most powers in Mafia games target specific people. If he is a third party it is more likely his powers will randomly target us.

Based on that, if his power is some kind of extra night killing than the town needs to get rid of him as quickly as possible. Random killings have a higher chance of hurting the town, especially in the beginning. With three killings each day/night cycle there will be less time to find scum.

It seems kinda weird that you think it is more important that there is a slim chance he could hurt scum. Personally I think it is more important that he could hurt town, and that is why I am voting for him.

There aren’t any other players right now that stand out as particularly scummy, and Nanook is a potential grenade. Seems like a good day 1 vote to me when my other option is relying on a hunch.

The following people didn’t have a vote at the 74-hour deadline:
**Blaster Master
Hal Briston
Zeriel**

**Blaster Master** and **Hal Briston** didn’t vote last time either.

Everyone voting for **Nanook of the North Shore** , what do you hope to gain by lynching him? If you stick to your guns and keep your votes on him, there is likely to be very little discussion for the rest of the Day. (You’ve seen how little people participated lately; yesterday during the evening/night, it was really quiet). When **Nanook of the North Shore** gets banned, it’s possible that the only piece of info we’ll get is his role. If that’s the case, then it’s no better than a Mod kill.

If we find out his alignment, then:

1. If **Nanook** turns out to be a town-aligned power role, we won’t know what he could have done for us, and thus have no idea what other opposing power he might have balanced out.

2)If he turns out to be a PFK role, then we’ve just done the scum’s dirty work. They’d need him to be dead just as much as we do. Now they’re free to night kill someone else.

1. If he’s scum, which I think is the least likely scenario, then – great, we got rid of a scum! But Mod-killing him would have accomplished the same thing.

Yes, there’s a chance that **Nanook** has a night power that might harm town. I addressed this in another post. If that’s the case, I don’t think he would have claimed toDay. I think we should take that risk.

Lastly, it will be hard to hold people responsible for voting **Nanook** , because all the cool kids were doing it. It’s easy to defend a vote for him, because _everybody_ thought it was a good idea. I’d rather force scum to take a stance on a different issue, and make them vote for someone else.

So again, for **Nanook** , I’m in favor of going the “Mod-kill Tomorrow” route.

Also, **Nanook** , if you don’t want to share your role name, then maybe you’d be willing to share your screen name? It might be fluff, but it might also be an extra data point.

We can afford to take the hits. Any scum killed by something other than a lynch is a huge victory for us. And that’s assuming his power is something directly harmful. It could be a block or investigative power. Those pose less a threat to Town.

But we can kill him just as easily by not voting for him Tomorrow. That’ll give us two lynches. Why the rush to lynch **Nanook** Today, when by his own admission, we can easily kill him by default Tomorrow? Why not lynch another player Today?

The example he used was of a sock [puppet], an account created as a puppet of another poster, or multiple accounts created by a single person. Based on my role and that of the Charter Members, I’m guessing that the Sock(s), if they exist, are going to be bad guys. Hal seems to agree. Same with Troll(s), IMHO.

I was indeed saying that unless someone comes out and says “I’m the Sock!” or “I’m the Troll!”, and we assume those are scum roles, then (at that time) we had very little to go on.

I agree with **Pleo** on this one – if **Nanook** is scum/PFK, and he has some terrific (from his point of view) power that he wants to blow out toNight, when A) why would be publicize it, and B) why would the mods put something that great-to-use-on-Night-One in the game in the first place? If he were a newbie looking to play with his new power-toy, I could almost see it. As it is, I have my doubts…

How does that look at all like a role claim? He’s implying that he has a power, but “I’m not vanilla” isn’t really a role claim, is it?

However, it _does_ smell to me like scum playing coy – very casually saying you have a power, and leaving it at that – basically establishing groundwork for a false claim down the road is how I’m reading it.

Diggit, what do you know that the rest of us don’t? Nanook hasn’t claimed a role, he’s claimed a very specific “stay-alive” condition. I don’t see where a Town player could make the statement you just made - you shouldn’t know his role, and furthermore you shouldn’t have anything to base your assertion on.

* * *

Regarding Nanook - WHY ARE YOU ALL SO QUICK TO BELIEVE HIS CLAIMED CONDITION? Sorry for the caps, I’m tired of people ignoring this. I’ll say it again, there are many many possible reasons for him to want people to vote for him. His claimed reason is just one of those. He could need votecharged, or he could have a mad-hatter role based on receiving votes, or… who knows what else.

On the other hand, if that condition _is_ as he claimed, we need to be very clear on what we’re doing here, because his power is probably a doozy. Everyone of you that votes for him now is shortening his life span and hurting Town, if his condition is as he claimed.

Back to the first hand, if his condition is _not_ as he claimed, then you all are potentially doing some very very bad things with your votes.

I’m having a very hard time making up my mind. Nanook, I know you’re feeling pressured and starting to dig your heels in… speaking purely for myself, a full claim to evaluate would help tremendously.

I know for sure that I don’t want to see any more votes on Nanook unless we decide for sure that we want to lynch him.

On that note, I will **Unvote NBC** and **Vote Diggit**.

So, you’re saying you’re not willing to test a testable claim? Do you think that his lynch won’t be unanimous if he’s lying about this? Or, do you think that lynching him on Day Three (assuming a he survives a Day Two no vote, and no Vig-role offs him Night Two) is too late?

A) I think we have several fine candidates.
B) I think he’s likelier to be town than freelancer.
C) If we decide to kill him, we can potentially gain a free lynch. If he’s lying completely, then we lynch him later, no harm done. Yes, it’s possible he has a kill that he’d use tonight. However, the bonus lynch makes up for that, since a bonus lynch essentially skips a night.

The reason DiggitCamera isn’t participating (I think) is because he was unexpectedly resurrected in the Marvel game. It would be quite weird to suddenly be involved in a game you thought you were done with. I’m willing to wait and see how he acts after that day ends.
