It doesn’t make sense to assume scum couldn’t have post restrictions.

I absolutely agree. But I’m not voting for you because I think you’re scum. I’m voting for you because your cryptic style is both anti-Town (by deliberately hiding information) and makes it impossible for _me_ to make a judgement about you. And because there’s no one else who seems especially suspicious at the moment.

And I’ll note that your last two posts (one partially quoted above, the other immediately preceding this post) are examples of what I would like to see. No cryptisms, easy to understand. Therefore,

Bolding mine.

Could you clarify this. Are you saying that your role name isn’t on Og’s list?

Like I said, that entire theory was wrong. (In case anyone is curious, I thought he had to keep his fluff to content ratio at or above 1, and/or had a post length limit. I have an overactive imagination.)

But you’re right, it’s bad to assume things. Just in terms of game mechanics, though, I think that the type of role restriction I envisioned would put scum at a way too big disadvantage.

Hm. I don’t know how much this really clears you, then. I don’t think it’s a good idea to assume that Admins are automatically town, nor can we assume that you are an Admin as you claim. Even a counterclaim doesn’t prove anything, since there could be more than one.

I have a sneaking suspicion what power you might “confirm” tomorrow, and if it’s the case, I won’t be terribly happy about waiting. Hell, I’ll be upfront about it: there aren’t very many publicly confirmable powers. Cop and doc are certainly not among them. Vigilante is the biggie. So if we wake up tomorrow with a couple townie bodies, and you claim one as yours, what are we supposed to do with you?

So, yeah. Given what you’ve said so far, that’s my fear. Is it unreasonable to want a claim from you? Or, at a minimum, an assurance that you aren’t going to use a dead body as your confirmation?

Again: I think my role is both valuable and can be confirmed. Like you say, any confirmation (except, maybe, the confirmation of masons) can’t actually be considered 100% valid by the rest of the town.

However: I don’t have banning power. If I had one (like in one or two past games) I would have told you openly about it, letting you decide whether you thought it was better to lynch me or not.

It’s just a temporary period of lucidity. First class to Phoenix. I should be hammered by the time I get to my Hotel.

Then, I can not promise continuing outbursts of comprehendible posts.

Sorry. But we have to be real.

And the fact that **pleo** would vote for me with the statement that I am not scum makes me go hmmmmmmm.

You’ve said this before, and I strongly disagree with it. If he’s Town, why should we allow him to die? You yourself said it was virtually identical to the sink or float test for witches. There’s got to be a better way.

Without knowing what his power is there is no other way then the old fashioned way of looking at what he has said and claimed. Without a full claim the only way to test him is to either not vote for him or to lynch him either way his death will bring the confirmation that we need. I am for the second option because it doesn’t give him the opportunity to use his power.

If **Nanook** has some sort of Night action that shows he’s town, we wouldn’t need to have him Mod-killed. He said his role is similar to something in the Blade Runner game. I didn’t read that game. If someone could explain that role to me, maybe I’d be able to come up with another idea.

Also, **Santo Rugger** , do you have any extra info about Day-end that could be helpful to us? You don’t necessarily have to share it, but it would be nice to know that at least you have some idea of what’s going on.

Otherwise, if after 48 hours we’re always in sudden death mode, it might lead to too many role claims. Thinking every hour can be their last might make people role claim at the first sign of danger, and that would be bad.

I’ve been taking a look at **Zeriel**. There are a few posts that raise an eyebrow:

First of all, Kat voted for Zeriel in [this post](http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showpost.php?p=10409727&postcount=462). The charge is that Zeriel was misrepresenting Hero:

> [@Kat](#):
>
> Okay, this may not be the most reasoned vote, but I’m going to **vote zeriel** , and here’s why.
>
> So, **zeriel** is voting **Hero** for advocating holding out on a Mason claim, but if you go back and look at **Hero** ’s stance (see quote below, plus also the discussion between he and I on Masons), he’s fairly clearly (at least to me) in favor of the Masons claiming. Even if **zeriel** didn’t interpret this particular post (shortly before his vote) as pro-claiming, there are later ones that are, and **zeriel** ’s posted since then without any clarification or correction on the matter.

The interesting thing is **Zeriel’s** [response](http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?p=10411520&highlight=mafia#post10411520)to this:

> [@Zeriel](#):
>
> I’m still reading through to catch up, but Hero’s dropped enough on my suspicion list that it’s not worth keeping a vote on him.
>
> unban Hero From Sector 7G
>
> That having been said, who to vote for? I’ve got a lot of low-level suspicions, as outlined in previous posts, but nothing I can point to and say “I’d definitely like that person to die tonight because of X and Y”. I’m somewhat torn about Nanook right now, since on one hand the analysts are correct in that overcomplex roles tend to be scum/pfk (but see also the Chia Bingo Manager). I admit to a bit of a vicious streak too in that if he’s a Jester making a beautiful play, I’d love to just end the game and get back to actually playing mafia (I hate the Jester-wins mechanic almost as much as I hate recruitment.) 😛
>
> OK’s reasoning on Diggit is also at least plausible. Not sure it rises to the level of a lynch yet.
>
> I’ll be back in a bit to vote, I need to find a coin or some dice or somethin’ to decide between my low-level suspicions. (or, y’know, re-read the thread to do so, which is what I’m actually going to do). I’m comfortable with having no vote out when it’s almost certain Nanook is going to stretch unless he gets suddenly eloquent.

Three points about this post. One- it’s generally quite wishy-washy - I’ve got suspicions, but I’m not placing a vote, I could either way on \*\*Nanook \*\*etc. Note in particular why \*\*Zeriel \*\*is unwilling to vote **Nanook**. Is this whole post just deliberate fence-sitting?
Two- the last sentence looks to be pushing for a role-claim. Does town really want more of these?
Three - no direct mention of **Kat** ’s accusation, or attempt at defence. But the vote is dropped nonetheless, for unclear reasons. Dropping a vote under pressure while being unwilling to engage in debate about one’s posts strikes me as being a touch scummy. Even more so when you’ve previously [declared](http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showpost.php?p=10407657&postcount=433):

> [@Zeriel](#):
>
> STRONGLY disagree–the fact that the masons have done the (IM, and apparently others, HO) the right thing does not change that Hero previously suggested the wrong thing.
>
> **My vote’s remaining on him, for the reasons I stated, until/unless someone else interesting comes along.**

(my bolding)

The [second](http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showpost.php?p=10413574&postcount=529)post:

> [@Zeriel](#):
>
> You realize, of course, that this is going to make us pro-town guys who AREN’T piling on your ass more inclined to vote for you to spite your spite. Come on, man, spite is not only unbecoming but it makes the game less fun–get a claim out there, if you’re anything.

Another push for a role-claim. Finally there’s [this](http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showpost.php?p=10412142&postcount=490):

> [@Zeriel](#):
>
> > [@JSexton](#):
> >
> > I feel very strongly that Nanook is not mafia. He may have a non-town WC, but I think the odds are good that he is town. The role that he claimed, and the manner in which he claimed it, are absolutely not the words of scum. Trouble is, I don’t have a better lynch target to suggest right now, which makes it difficult for people to unvote. Working on it..
>
> You raise an excellent case, and it’s pretty much why I’m NOT voting on Nanook.

Piggy-backing someone else’s reasoning AND completely contradicting the earlier reasons for not voting **Nanook**.

All in all, I’m changing my vote
\*\*
unvote NBC\*\*

The members spent their Day heatedly discussing the nature of **Og** and the message boards. There was a great deal of talk about **Og** ’s anger and his trickster nature. Does **Og** play fair? Why does **Og** smash? What’s up with **Og** not giving everyone explicit details about who the evil elements in the town are? Some even claimed that **Og** was not, in fact, a trickster at all but instead a fair minded and just deity. Many called this line of thinking idiotic. As discussion wore on it became clear that one of the people in the discussion was an unfamiliar face.

**Hal Briston** , an old timer looked at new guy and said “By the way, you’re kinda cool man. Who are you?”

“Oh me? They call me the Natural Blond Chap, but you can call me **NBC** , everyone does. Except that guy over there, he is a bit confused and calls me ESPN, I don’t really get it. Anyway, I heard good things about this message board and signed up for one of your nifty 30 day guest memberships.”

**Santo Rugger** said “Dude, didn’t you hear? We are free post now! Why did you go and get a 30 day membership?! :smack: Anyway, stick around. It’s always good to have new people.”

“Yeah,” said **Kat**. “And don’t worry about the goat. He’s friendly. :D”

“Ha, yeah, bring out the goat for NBC!” called out **ok11**.

From \*\*Zsofia \*\*we hear “Woohoo, initiation ceremony! Where did I put my chocolate pudding?”

\*\*NBC \*\*looked at the crazed lunatics and laughed at what he thought was a rather obvious joke. “Ha, funny. Goat. Right. You guys know how to make a guy feel welcome." Then trying to change the subject away from horrific initiation ceremonies he adds "Um, hey, you know I don’t really understand this whole Og thing you have going on. I mean…Og? Seriously, you don’t expect me to believe a bunch of skeptics like you would worship an invisible deity do you? Right? Ha! Og, sheesh.” But the smile melted off his face as he saw the expressions of his fellows darken at his heresy.

A whispered voice said “I think we were wrong about you NBC." The voice turned an icy blue as it said “ **Og** , **ban NBC**!” Then chanting "BAN NBC. **BAN NBC!** “

The chant caught like wildfire amongst the town _ **“BAN NBC!** _”

The Natural Blond Chap backed into a corner, (didn’t he know better than that?) with fright at how quickly the group had turned on him. “Hey, guys. We were friends! Come on! Really, it’s just a difference of opinion!”

Then someone shouted, “GET THE SQUID!”

It was at that moment that the Sun abruptly went out. The UPS running the servers took a measurable fraction of a second to kick in.

In the dark there was a short, piercing scream.

As the assembled throng’s eyes adjusted they realised that the Sun still glowed, a ruddy colour compared to it’s normal incandescent glare. However, NBC’s body was missing and squid ink was all over the floor.

Peeker looked around the room and said “See I told you **Og** wouldn’t tell us what Nanook’s role was”

The town nodded in agreement.

**Og** laughed.

**NBC, a Guest – a pro town role – has been banned.** With a squid.

Posters are advised that the power systems and vote registration systems have been seriously damaged. It will take an estimated 48 hours to bring them back up again. Votes cannot be registered until repairs are completed.

Strategy discussions may continue while the Sun still sheds light from its residual heat; darkness will fall completely at 4pm EST (9PM GMT, 3PM Central time, 2PM Mountain or 1PM Pacific time). After that time (measured by the Board clock) please refrain from posting strategy until the Sun is relit. On pain of… something.

Thank you for your patience.

**Og** and his team.
