There are certain ways of telling if people haven’t been in a city very long. If you wear an “I love New York” shirt, then you haven’t lived in NY. If you say that Boston has a well run public transportation system, then you haven’t spent much time in Boston.

The green line trolleys are a particularly lovely feature of Boston. These are trains that travel both above and below ground. While above ground, they run down major streets, stopping at lights without any sort of right of way. Particularly, painful is one line that has about 7 stops through the middle of the Boston University campus, every two blocks or so. It is best way to travel almost 5 miles in under an hour. Generally by painful I mean figuratively, but there are exceptions.

People new to Boston often live on the Green Line. It has the appearance of being a highly convenient place to live. Thankfully, like most people not on their first lease, we no longer live on it, but we are still required to take it occasionally. We were riding along last Tuesday when the train came to a sudden stop. The passengers also stopped, though that occurred a couple seconds later than the train. I held for dear life with one hand and caught Mouse with the other. Seeing everyone behind me fly about was kind of surprising. My balance is generally such that I expect to be the first one falling.

The conductor jumped into immediate action, ensuring everyone that this problem was not her fault. Her next act was to determine whose fault it was. Somehow the emergency break had been activated. She asked if anyone accidentally leaned on it, an impressive feat given that you have to reach into the door to pull it out. I don’t think I want to see anyone who is that flexible. Once she was able to ascertain that it was not the fault of anyone in her train car, she attempted to communicate with the driver in the back car to see if it was the fault of someone on his train or him, to limited success.

The problem with an emergency break being triggered, beyond the flying action, is that the train won’t start again until it is reset. Having no idea what set it off in the first place, making the train move again was a significant challenge. About ten minutes later, after a series of resets, awkward attempts at communication, and outside help, the train started up again. We rolled along until just before the next stop where, amazingly enough, we get stuck behind a disabled train. After a few more minutes we reach Arlington, the next stop. A passenger comments “I wonder how many people are going to get off here.”

\*We are going to stop this story for a moment for a brief public service announcement. If you are on a train and its emergency break goes off for no discernable reason, get off at the next stop. Thank you.

We didn’t get off. The train started up again and headed towards Copley. Mouse sat down, and suggested I hold on. We got back up towards normal speed when _screech_ Thankfully, I once and while listen, and was holding on to two bars above me. Beyond being a little stretched out and catching a guy with my back, I remained secure.

The conductor asked if everyone was okay. Wait that is not right, rather the conductor tells everyone that they are okay. I’m sure that was reassuring for any potentially injured individual. It was now clear that this train is not up for the task of transferring passengers without hurling them about. There was, however, one remaining problem. We needed to be at a station in order to disembark. The conductor told everyone to hold on and started the train again. She went slower now, but as in turns out, a slow train coming to an abrupt halt still inflicts a large amount of pressure.

After a third trip towards the rear, we manage to make it Copley. We were awaited by a sea of rush hour travelers shooting looks that would scar children for life. I don’t think I could describe, unless you have spent time enough time in New York to not where a T-Shirt. We got out at Copley, and gave up on venturing further.

We did eventually learn what caused the malfunction. It turns out the train was being modified by a body rolling under it. In this case though, the problems were not caused by brake failure, but by the wrong kind of person on the track.

**Pleonast, aka the Liquid Monk, a Moderator (Town) will relocate no more.**

If only that was the only problem. Blaster master lay on the ground, the back of his head stove in with a very large hammer

Blaster Master, aka

Shadowfacts mumbles “Ogsh darn it, there aren’t actually any scum in this game are there. It is just a battle with our darker selves.

No. Blaster Ma

Hal interrupts “No there are scum, we just are really bad at this.”

The town continues to argue amongst themselves about the cause of their frustrations.

That said, with **Pleo** turning up Town, there is no possible way that anyone is going to believe me. We’ve been completely outclassed this game, I’m afraid.

**Ban Hal Briston**

I put that there just for the record. This is my last post of the game. I will not be back to defend myself - there is absolutely no point as my lynch is 100% assured, and I strongly suspect that the game will be over when I’m banned. On the off chance that I am wrong and the game doesn’t end with my banning, after you lynch **Hal** , I would suggest **Boozahol** to be next. But that’s just wishful thinking, really.

Two in one day, and none in the preceding 5?
As far as I see it (given they had 5 scum to start off with) this will put us at 4-3 as of toMorrow, if Zsofia can’t block them tonight (worst case scenario). Still winnable. My notice of Hero’s possible godfatherhood still stands for whomever might be left in the endgame.

</div>

At this point, I believe **Hal** so I’ll

Vote **ShadowFacts**

Here’s why I believe him. We can be sure that **Hal** is not bluffing when he says that he’s a detective. Otherwise, he wouldn’t have known **Pleonast** ’s role. He also can’t be an [insane cop](http://wiki.flyingcowofdoom.com/mafiaWiki/Sanity) as **Total Lost** suggested, because he proved that he was right about **Pleonast**. The wiki doesn’t list the type of cop that’s right only 50% of the time (I don’t know the proper term, but this role was in one of the games played on the SDMB). I doubt that **Hal** ’s role is like that, because having only 50% success in addition to not becoming a detective right away seems extremely weak. Then again, what do I know?

It would be nice if someone familiar with **JSexton** ’s formula would run through different possible game setups, and let us know what numbers and roles make sense. So far, **Blaster Master** was the only one to crunch the numbers using the info we have available now. And he could have skewed his results.

Here are the complicating factors with respect to **Hal** ’s readings: (1) as **Boozahol Squid P. I.** suggested, **Hero** might be the Godfather or (2) **Hal** might be a scum detective. I think both of those are unlikely, because (1) **Hero** came close to getting lynched multiple times, and if he was scum, I think his buddies would have done a better job of protecting him, and (2) a scummy **Hal** probably wouldn’t have told us that **Pleonast** is a power role, and would instead vote for **Pleonast** himself (and try to get him banned).

Regardless of whether you believe their claims, I don’t think **Hal** or **Zsofia** should be banned anytime soon. If they’re telling the truth, then scum can’t afford to let them live for too long. Scum wouldn’t let **amrussell** make it to the endgame, and if **Zsofia** keeps protecting him, scum will have to take her out pretty soon. If **Hal** is telling the truth, then the longer they let him investigate, the more info town will get. And when they eventually take him out, all of **Hal** ’s investigations will become confirmed. Theoretically, they could let him live and hope that we’ll ban him, but then they risk having him alive at endgame, which would also be bad for them.

If **Zsofia** decides to play WIFOM with scum and protects either herself or **Hal** , **amrussell** might get Night killed. But even if **amrussell** isn’t around anymore, she’s still verifiable. If she protects **Hal** then he’ll tell us that she blocked his power. Then she’ll be confirmed because it’s unlikely that scum have blocking powers (otherwise, they would have blocked **Pleonast** toNight). If she self-protects and one of the power roles gets Night killed, she can go back to protecting the remaining power role.

In case anyone is wondering, I did go back and reread **Rapier42** ’s posts (like I promised yesterDay). Unfortunately, my reread didn’t turn up anything new. So I’ll link to 3 things that others brought up, if anyone wants to look at them.

1. In [post 778](http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showpost.php?p=10431364&postcount=778), **ShadowFacts** thought **Rapier42** ’s vote for **NBC** was interesting. (Here are the posts **ShadowFacts** was referring to: [324](http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showpost.php?p=10400575&postcount=324) and [330](http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showpost.php?p=10400853&postcount=330).)
2. **Amrussell** ’s case against **Rapier42** [from Day 3](http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showpost.php?p=10457505&postcount=1132); **Rapier42** ’s explanation of why his vote stayed on **JSexton** : [post 1194](http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showpost.php?p=10464708&postcount=1194)
3. **Amrussell** ’s case against **Rapier42** [from yesterDay](http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showpost.php?p=10523742&postcount=1517); **Rapier42** ’s [explanation](http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showpost.php?p=10526415&postcount=1559)

I’m not really sure about **Rapier42** ’s alignment; I could see both a townie or a scum behaving like that. I plan to look at other players tomorrow morning, to get a jump start on Day 7.

Right now, **Boozahol Squid, P. I.** is pinging me. YesterDay he said

That’s an incredibly baseless smudge, taking that out of context like that. I was making a joke based on my misunderstandings of Santo’s role. Did you just not read the surrounding portion of the thread, or are you intentionally trying to drum up bad press about me. Did _you_ think Santo was a good target that night?

No, and I said as much. I’m pointing out that you didn’t trust **Santo** yourself before he got death-confirmed, yet after the fact you’re saying you trusted him.

I quoted your joke, because that was the most memorable line from you. But you were questioning **Santo** ’s alignment throughout Day 3. Here are some other quotes, where you were serious.

> [@Boozahol\_Squid\_P.I](#):
>
> Didn’t Santo’s earlier role claim require him to lynch scum in order to extend the da? While I’m less convinced of this mechanism’s pro-townieness (not in design, just in function, where we essentially have 48 hour days followed by a dusk with discussion and minor vote-wrangling), I can’t see how a player would give up the opportunity to be able to utilize such a role by not voting.

Sigh, never mind. Having done a reread of your posts, I didn’t find anything that gave me a strong scum vibe. And even though I still think that the statements above are inconsistent, it doesn’t make sense for a scummy you to try to discredit **Pleonast** after the Day already ended. Otherwise, I’m going to try to reread and see who I think his friends may be. I’ve been hit pretty hard with a sinus infection the last few days - fever, etc. And then I went and bought Fallout 3, so I just looked up and realized I’d been playing since lunch.
