I love cow-orker, but only because whenever I read it I envision a herd of cows stampeding across the plains being chased by a group of office workers flapping their arms going “Ork, ork ork ork!” like geese. And that makes me happy. ---

1. **Hi Opal!** Just reinforces the fact that some posters are more equal than others. If Opal didn’t get so much attention, would her art exhibit spam remain while similar posts by others may be removed by the powers that be? I’ve met Opal. She’s a decent, intelligent and interesting person, JUST LIKE SO MANY OF US ARE. However, she’s no more special than any other Doper I’ve met. 1. **SDMB is the most intelligent message board around.** No. Demographically, it probably has the **oldest** geek/nerd crowd, but there’s other message boards where the average IQ is likely just as high, if not higher. 2. **SDMBers are perfect, in an odd sort of way.** I joke about Doperland, but it seems so true. Nobody talks on cell phones in public (and those that do demand only basic telephones without any fancy features like cameras or SMS), few own televisions, nobody cuts off other drivers, SUV drivers only use them for hauling horse trailers over mountain passes, everybody is more attracted to larger or obese women than those that are weight-proportionate-to-height, and so on. ---

Well, if someone starts a thread that says, “I don’t have a television! Who doesn’t either?” there will probably be few answers of the form “Actually I do have a television.” Likewise for the other examples, in which the alternatives are either unremarkable or things few people will cop to. ---

1. **Og.** There’s nothing wrong with saying “God,” even if you don’t believe in God. Actually I don’t so much mind people saying Og as I do the feeling that you can’t say God instead because all the Dopers will look at you disapprovingly over the tops of their spectacles and “tsk” at you. 🙂 2. **Hi, Opal.** Along with a lot of other posters, I think this one has had well more than its 15 minutes of fame and should be retired. ---

How about calling these things cliches instead of memes? Either way, I’d like to see the 1920’s style death ray die, along with all of the emoticons. Also, I agree that Hi Opal! is very tired, but it can be revived by adding Go Buckeyes! to it. ---

I’m also going to say that “Hi, Opal!” needs to die. I like Opal. Nothing against her. And in fact, I’ve seen posts where \*she \*would like it to go away. Not only is the meme overused and tired (oh, so very very tired), but it’s usually misused. The best thing to do would be to take it out of the “SDMB FAQ” where new users see it and think, “Oh! Now I know how to fit in!”, when in actuality what they should be really saying is, “Oh! Now I know how to stick out as a new user and annoy a segment of this new community I’ve found!” It’s like when your mom used to try to use modern slang. ---

There is no such thing as gosh…if you are going to swear to something make it your mother/father/dog/God/god whatever…just swear to something that is REAL! Well…just to clarify, I don’t care whether somebody thinks God is real or not. That’s irrelevant to my argument. Hell, I remember being amused years ago because I heard Ayn Rand say “Oh, my God!” in an interview. She was a rather avowed atheist. It’s just an expression, and using it doesn’t imply that you believe (at least to me). That’s all I’m trying to say. I forget where I saw it, but it made me chuckle awhile back when an atheist character exclaimed, “Oh, my lack of God!” 🙂 ---
