Betty Royce dubbed Debbie’s voice and the movie footage we see is, IIRC, Gene’s The Three Musketeers
Singin in the Rain is one of my all time favorites. Mom introduced me to Gene Kelly, Erroll Flynn, Cary Grant, etc at a very early age, and I’ve hade a fairly jaundiced view of modern movie stars ever since. (Notice I didn’t say actors - there’s a difference) But Gene was one of the most elegant, graceful, and athletic dancers I’ve ever seen. The title number in that movie is a stand alone classic in American Musical history. That aside, however, I have to say my favorite numbers in that film were Moses Supposes and Good Morning - Cosmo’s my fave. His voice filling in for Lena’s lip sync in the end had me in convulsions the first time I saw it at about age 9.
Maybe I’ll go rent this tonight, I need a pick-me-up…
Thanks, Archive Guy. Now that you’ve corrected my error, I remember it was Judy Holliday in Born Yesterday. I admit I was misshapen.
Now that I’ve made my mea culpas, what other movies featured Jean Hagen? She’s so beautiful, and, from what I’ve seen in SitR, she’s a fine actress, with good comedic timing.
(Of course, I could just search on the IMdB, but this is much more chatty, wouldn’t you agree? :D)
BRAVO Archive Guy! You got the answer! And thanks for Betty Royce, I didn’t remember that one.
As for the Jean Hagan question, one more movie I remember her from was “The Shaggy Dog” (original) from Disney. She played the mother of the teenage boy in question.
She was also Danny Thomas’ wife in “Make Room for Daddy” – I think the first wife. As I recall, she left the show and they wrote her character out (she died – one of the first main characters on a sitcom to do so.)
