This is the thread for competition photos that didn’t quite make the cut, right? I got a couple. An isolated shower (Worthing, West Sussex). Didn’t work as well as I wanted because it’s a struggle to see three kite surfers and a wind farm. [![Google Photos](https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/oL80fObLh7vnNvO1Q0QkPIbHg7VelKjSZv1hCjfTBrxHwKPR5uVfud5b40YVn43Kg7NDMqOxFb--G6FzS2UeJ2E7aLYGzcqdMOa_YZZzL_xpzKLA3DZW5PiYL8PVEPnmCAzcu1Z_Aw=w600-h315-p-k "New item by j") ](https://photos.app.goo.gl/rYMyUwMv8f8bizs49) Dulwich sunset. Not bad, but the bar for that sort of photo has been set _real_ high. (See above, for example). I considered using this for “skies” but had to go with the lightning photo since it’s the luckiest shot I’ve ever taken. Skylight [![](https://i.imgur.com/YaVrihk.jpg) ](https://i.imgur.com/YaVrihk.jpg) ---

Here are the other photos I was considering submitting for the “skies” theme. A big reason I went with the one I did instead was because so many other people submitted sunset/sunrise photos, and I figured mine wouldn’t make the cut. Going with an aviation photo instead was something of a strategic decision to use something different that might stand out from the crowd. My other contenders: Santorini, Greece, 2019.
