SDMB Shadowrun campaign, New World Orders - players only!

Donovan drops the assault rifle, and with the same motion reaches into the breast of his business suit. He draws a sleek looking, small, chromed machine pistol from a hidden holster within his suit, and aims at a human TWT ganger. A laser sight paints a bright red point on the ganger’s chest.

The weapon kicks with recoil as Donny fires a short burst, and small gas vents on the weapon attempt to compensate. The human seems to sense Donny’s imminent attack, and withdraws behind an overturned table as the bullets from Donny’s burst fly harmlessly past him. As the ganger readies his weapon and exits cover in order to fire at Donny, he sees a muzzle flash from Goethe’s rifle…

Donny has used a free action to drop the assault rifle, a simple action to draw his machine pistol, and a simple action to fire at the TWT gang member, unfortunately unsuccessfully.

The injured ork shouts in defiance. He stands with his weapon ready and aimed at Goethe, with a roar of challenge in his throat. As the ork steadies his weapon, a casually fired narrow burst from Goethe’s rifle pierces the ork’s skull. The scream is cut short, and the ork collapses.

Donovan’s human target whirls around the overturned table he was using for cover, and brings his pistol up to fire at Donny. Too late, the human senses something wrong, and glances toward Goethe just as Goethe fires another burst. He tries to turn away from Goethe’s attack, but the full three-round burst shreds his body from hip to shoulder. The man shouts in surprise, and falls to the floor, bleeding massively.

Goethe has used two simple actions to fire his rifle. The first shot killed the injured ork, and the second did 9 physical damage to one of the human gangers. The human has suffered a fatal wound, but hasn’t died yet. He can no longer participate in the battle.

The last human ganger throws his light pistol on the floor toward Goethe and Donovan, and raises his hands in the air. “Stop! We surrender!” the man shouts.

The human uses a free action for the simple phrase, and two simple actions to throw the gun toward the group and raise his hands in the surrendering gesture.

The ork similarly drops his weapon, and raises his hands. He nods a gesture to the severely injured human, who is rapidly losing blood. “Please. He needs help,” the ork says.

The ork uses a free action for the phrase, and two simple actions to ditch his weapon and gesture surrender.

Meanwhile, Seneth and Nail have set a trap for Fortnight.

Seneth makes his order to the fire spirit, who nods with understanding. Nail casually smokes a cigarette while leaning against the old Zion building.

Darwin senses something is wrong with Kirk. He seems to fidget with indecision, but suddenly moves toward the motorcycle. With his single arm, he gestures for someone to follow him as he hovers into a small “seat” designed for the shape of his body casing.

As Darwin makes the gesture, the garage door slowly begins to open, and the roar of a Harley engine can be heard from inside.

Immediately, the fire spirit seems to “collapse” into a small carpet of flame that zips underneath the garage door. After a moment, two simultaneous long bursts of machine gun fire can be heard from inside the garage, and then a scream.

The fire spirit has used a free action to enter the garage, and two simple actions to engage Fortnight in combat (with unknown results). Fortnight has used a free action to rig-start his Harley and open the garage, and two simple actions to fire his weapons at the spirit, with unknown results.

Seneth has used his initiative pass to carefully phrase his command to the spirit. Nail can enter the building with a free action during his next initiative pass.

—End of first Initiative Pass this round—

Goethe and Nail both have a second initiative pass. Goethe can use his initiative pass to accept the surrender of the TWT gang, or continue the combat by attacking them. If Goethe accepts surrender, the building combat will end.

Nail can use his initiative pass to enter the garage and engage Fortnight, or follow Darwin and get on the motorcycle.

If Nail chooses to enter the garage, Seneth may ride with Darwin starting next combat round.

Once I get orders from Nail and Goethe, I’ll post the results of the next initiative pass.

Seneth will ride with Darwin.

Sounds good. He’ll get on the motorcycle next combat round. Your fire spirit is perfectly capable of following your commands even without you physically present, but don’t be surprised if he goes away without saying goodbye, soon as his services are complete.

Geothe will accept the surrender and get their guns. He’ll toss out his medkit next to the body, point at it and say “Best I can do, sorry. Donovan, I think you can hold down the fort here. I’m going after Fortnight.”

He then goes out the back door to see how the rest of his team is faring.

Oh, and on his way to Fortnight, Goethe will eject the clip from the assault rifle and replace it with a stick-n-shock clip of his own.

Unless Goethe is aware of the bike running, in which case he will likely keep the bullets in to take out the bike.

Goethe can certainly hear the Harley’s ignition. They’re just as obnoxious in the New World as they are here.

Gotcha.

Goethe will then keep the bullets in the gun and make a full out run to the garage.

I’ll post the next initiative pass results soon a I hear from Nail. I’ll give it another 12hrs or so to account for goofy time zone differences.

Nail sighs and enters the garage. If it looks like Fortnight is still in any condition to be riding, he will attempt to shoot out the wheels of the Harley.

Goethe runs down the same hallway Fortnight attempted to escape through. He hears the machine pistol fire, followed by a high pitched scream. As he rounds the corner to the garage, he sees a confusing scene before him. A fire spirit in a “classic devil” form complete with horns and tail, standing over a wrecked Harley. The Harley is turned over on the ground, with Fortnight pinned beneath it, shouting in pain and fear. Nail arrived a moment before Goethe, and has kicked aside Fortnight’s dual machine pistols safely out of his reach.

The devil turns to Nail, and says “My service is complete,” before fading into oblivion.

Meanwhile, Seneth rides with Darwin back to the parked sedan. Darwin hurriedly opens the vehicle door, and Kirk nearly tumbles out of the door to the ground. Seneth manages to catch her before she falls. It’s clear she has been hurt, but Seneth can attempt to heal her.

Seneth may attempt to summon an earth spirit to assist him with healing Kirk. Alternatively, he can attempt to heal her without the aid of a spirit.

–End of Combat–

Time is no longer being measured in combat rounds. Your characters are no longer limited by the free/simple/complex action format.

Goethe surveys the carnage of the garage.

"Nail, remind me never to get on Seneth’s bad side.

“Ya know, Fortnight, all this would have gone much easier had you just given yourself up. Your leg wouldn’t be bleeding, your hog would still be intact, your lackeys wouldn’t be wounded and dead. See, we weren’t sent here to kill you, just to ask you some things. You seem to make some lousy choices in who you consider your associates and friends. One of them has made some powerful people very angry. I believe he goes by the name of Chaggo.”

Geothe will watch for Fortnight’s reaction upon hearing Chaggo’s name before continuing.

Nail looks down at the pinned Fortnight. Visibly relaxing, he puts his gun away. Upon hearing Goethe speak, Nail leans against a wall lazily. After a few moments, half out of curiosity and half out of boredom, Nail explores his surroundings a little bit.

After Goethe says his piece, Fortnight replies, “What do you want? That ork isn’t worth all this. So Chaggo pissed off the wrong guy. What’s that got to do with me?”

As Nail casually surveys the room, he notices a credstick which has presumably been knocked from Fortnight’s pocket during the scuffle. None of the others have noticed it, and Nail can attempt to take it without being noticed with a palming+agility test.

If Seneth doesn’t reply in about 12 hours, I’ll resolve his heal attempt so we can get Kirk back in the game.

"Oh, it’s more than just pissing someone off. He kidnapped someone. Someone very important. And he’s holding that person for ransom from my client. As to what it has to do with you, well, my client seems to think you know where he can be found. Apparently Chaggo sold you some inside data on Synthcorp that wasn’t meant for public consumption. So you tell us what where we can find this guy, and this all gets over for everyone concerned that much quicker.

“Of course, if you don’t feel like cooperating, we have our methods…”

Goethe pulls his shock gloves out and puts them on.

“I assume you’ve seen these before? If not, they’re called ‘shock gloves’. It’s like having 10 mini-tasers right at your fingertips, literally. If you’ve never experienced them, it’s not a pleasant experience, believe me. The nice thing is, they hurt like a son-of-a-bitch without actually killing somone. And once the person passes out from the shock, in both senses of that word, you can just heal them up and start all over again. Not to mention, that being pinned under a Harley can’t be the most comfortable of situations.”

“So it’s your call, chummer. Where can we find Chaggo?”

I’m busy for a little while here(couple hours) but Seneth will:

Cast heal on Kirk

More later.

“Stand aside, my children. I will get this young man to talk. It’s…something I can do.”

Seneth approaches Fortnight, looming over him.

"You don’t need to say anything. Not a word to us, my child. You need only to give me access to your mind and to focus your thoughts on this Chaggo man we need to find. You can tell your superiors you said nothing and it will be the truth.

However, if you do not do this, I want to be honest about the consequences. The “shock gloves” that child just mentioned to you are nothing compared to what I can do to you.

To be honest, I haven’t even decided what I would do to you if you resist. I may summon a spirit beyond your imagination and have it torture you with fire, cold, or worse.

Or, if you truly resist. I’ll place my hand on your head. I will place it there, hold it there, and you will feel true pain. Pain beyond electrical shock, pain beyond the burning of freezing of a spirit, pain.

And you will die from my touch. This could be the end of you Fortnight, these very moments may be your last.

Or, you could give me access to your mind and reveal to us where Chaggo is. Do that, and we will leave. I even offer to heal you if you reveal to me what we desire to know."

With this, Seneth lifts his arm, puts his palm outward toward Fortnight, and waits.

“It is up to you what magics I use right now. Tell us what we want to know.”

First, Seneth’s heal spell will be resolved.

Seeing Kirk in such a condition touches a soft spot in Seneth’s soul. He holds her thin, wiry body upright with his left arm, as he touches his right to her forehead and chants. Seneth can feel the magic running through him, revitalizing the unconscious elf. The power comes with a price, as Seneth feels his own strength waning even as Kirk’s is returned. Kirk groggily opens her eyes, at first seeming confused by her surroundings…

Seneth has healed six points of damage from Kirk, bringing her back to consciousness. Kirk is still suffering dice penalties for the remaining stun damage, but it will heal with a good night’s sleep.

Seneth has suffered 3 points of stun damage due to Drain as a result of his spell. He will suffer moderate dice penalties, and further spellcasting may cause significant impairment if he doesn’t get rest soon.

Meanwhile, back at the garage, Goethe is interrogating Fortnight. Fortnight seems ready to say whatever Goethe wants to hear.

Fortnight says, “I didn’t buy anything. I was only the middleman. Some spooky Corp suit wanted some files from Chaggo, and the ork wanted money. I just swapped a credstick and a hard drive. Couldn’t tell what was on the drive, either. Encryption was too strong. Believe me, I tried! Anyway, he’s supposed to meet me at the El Train terminal 27 tomorrow morning. He’s assembling a runner crew, and says he has a job for me. Don’t know the details yet.”

Goethe has the impression that Fortnight would have given up his own mother under these circumstances. It’s unlikely he’s lying or withholding information, but there’s only one way to be sure…

Goethe has had enough success with his intimidation attempt that he is confident Fortnight has told him the truth and is not deliberately withholding information.

After healing Kirk, Seneth arrives, looking quite worn out. He may attempt to either cast analyze truth to be certain of Fortnight’s honesty, or mind probe to force everything Fortnight knows out of him (at a much more dangerous Drain risk). Fortnight will submit to either spell. If Seneth casts a spell, it will be with penalties due to the Drain damage Seneth has already suffered.

Seneth casts mind probe to learn everything.

Kirk groans with irritation and more than a bit of a headache as she regains consciousness, going limp for a moment as she consults with Darwin to find out what happened while she was unconscious.

She glances briefly at Fortnight and the ongoing interrogation, after which she shrugs and gestures happily towards Darwin to follow as she begins to scour their surroundings for any particularly interesting tech.

Unless the party requests her immediate attention or services, Kirk will confiscate the gang members’ commlinks for later inspection, and then inspect both of the combat drones she noticed during the fight and then the motorcycle pinning Fortnight, to see if any of the objects can be salvaged whole or stripped for parts. If she still has time afterwards, she will ask someone to accompany her sweeping the rest of the base for the datastick or interesting tech.

Before Seneth and Kirk arrive, Nail checks out his surroundings. Noticing the credstick out of the corner of his eye, Nail stretches. Putting his foot in such a way to block Goethe’s view, Nail first stretches his arms up to the sky. Then, bringing them down to the floor, Nail smoothly palms the stick.

Nail wanders a bit after that, smokes a cig naps, etc. He will help Kirk snoop around when she asks.
