SDMB Short Fiction Contest - June, 2011 "National Holidays" Themed edition - logistics thread.

Ah-ha, I see last time, it was email with a .doc attachment, so that’s what I’ve done.

Whew! No wimping out this time!

Come on, writers, type away!

Sorry, I was replying at the same time you were posting. Alas, I’d deleted the prompt email in a fit of Outlook-clearing.

Uh, this is for the short fiction contest or poetry? The auto reply that gave me the words does however mention at the beginning that this is for the short fiction writing.

Fixed it - thanks for pointing that out.

And I just finished mine and sent it off, warts and all. That makes two so far - one from Savannah as well as my own.

At 10 PM, Monday, July 4th, I will be out of internet range. I can offer two suggestions -

  1. The Short Fiction Contest will close at 10 PM, Sunday, July 3rd - the poll will be established then, and it will close sometime around July 11th when I’m back in internet range.

  1. The Short Fiction Contest will close at 10 PM, Monday, July 11th - the poll will be established then, and it will close sometime around July 17th.

I have no preference whatsoever for either of these two options - if any of you do, please express it sometime in the next, say, 48 hours.
I apologize for having to change plans after they’ve been established - the good news (from my standpoint, anyway) is that we scored the cottage that we really wanted to rent, it being the one where the rest of the world cannot reach us. Meantime, my friend who needs a good piano to work on his recital repertoire can look after our house/play my piano until his fingers fall off while we’re away. As long as I can change the dates for the contest, it will all fall into place beautifully…

I prefer option 1, because at heart I am a very impatient person.

I prefer option 2, because the last week has been super crazy for me and my family.

Option 2

Option one, because I am also impatient and want to read everyone else’s story.

I also want a cottage.

MsWhatsit, I just received your story. Well done! That brings us up to three, so far.

I’ve always been under the impression that your entire city, nay, the island upon which it finds itself, is like one gigantic cottage country.

Thanks, LMdl! I lamely re-sent it because the first version was very slightly messed up, so hopefully that’s OK.

I had a lot of fun with this.

GIGOBuster, your story arrived overnight; fantastic!

Oooooh a nice long period of time. I might get in on this over the weekend. If I don’t forget.

So, in reference to post #24, do you have a preference for wrapping up on Sunday, July 3 or Monday, July 11?

In clear votes, I have a tie at 2 each…

#2, the later option, please.

My story is due Friday anyway, so my deadline isn’t cut off. Might as well get to read the stories earlier!

If it’s extended to 7/11, I can almost certainly participate, but it’ll be tough if the contest ends 7/3. So, I’d prefer the later date.

Damn. I would’ve rather liked to play. :frowning:

You still can.

Except what you and the other impatient people seem to be forgetting is that a lot of the stories simply won’t be there to be read, because other people who don’t have your same schedule won’t be able to participate.
