Can I join for this year?

The past two years I have made weight loss progress. It hasn’t been super-fast, but I find it more important that I’ve kept the weight I’ve lost OFF instead of quick results.

Sex: Female
Age: 25
Height: 5’4"

Jan 2008: 188 lbs

I’d like to be around 155 ideally by the end of the year, but would be totally cool with 160 or 165. Slow and steady wins the race. 🙂

I would like to join as well! I lost 20 pounds two years ago (while my husband was deployed) and am sad to say, I have gained it all back =(

My goals are to lose 10% of my body weight (17 pounds - yuck!) and to actually be able to run a 5K this year.

Hi everybody!
I am also doing weight watchers, though I am using the flex plan instead of the core plan. Has anyone else ever used their flex plan? If so, what were the biggest problems you encountered on their flex plan?
I haven’t had any problems on Flex at all. I think Core might kill me, but Flex is awesome.

I went from 260 to 190, then gained during pregnancy, then went from 240 to my current 170 on Flex. It works if you follow it, drink your water, and try to get in some exercise.

**pbbth** , I’ve been using Flex since they rolled it out, almost exclusively.

The only problem I have is stopping eating when I’ve run out of points. 😃

(Kidding, I have maintained my weight loss for over 10 years now - they rolled out Points when I was on the 6 weeks of maintenance, so while I didn’t lose with it, I’ve kept it off by using it.)

I weighed in at 230 this morning, which is what I weighed in October, when I started all this. But I’m down the 6 pounds I gained between October and mid-December, so there you go. 🙂

I broke in my new elliptical cross-trainer and I’m doing pretty well. I’ve exercised 6 days a week for the past 3 months, and that’s great. The steroids are still making things difficult–I tried to wean off of them, but had to back off when I started exhibiting the symptoms of adrenal insufficiency–fatigue, weakness, nausea, joint pain–it was a treat. I’m still at half the dosage I used to be at, so that’s progress. I have my appointment with the hoity-toity Manhattan specialist in a few weeks, so hopefully things will be better soon, on all fronts.

I haven’t been in this club before, do I have to sacrifice a goat to join?

Anyway, after losing a lot of weight last year I promptly gained it all back, and decided to try again, starting today.

I weight myself naked this morning, after going to the bathroom of course! Do we declare, every so often, how much we’ve lost?

Scout’s a WW leader. At any rate, once you’re on Lifetime you don’t pay for meetings.

I went to about a month’s worth of meetings, and stopped going. My only WW support has been online, most notably from Miss Leaderpants Scout.

No. But you can sacrifice a turkey. It’s a lean source of protein.

That’s entirely up to you. Many post weekly in the format start/current/goal, which is a nice shorthand for tracking progress, but no one is compelled to do so. I myself have stopped doing that, because DAMMIT DAMMIT DAMMIT I’m stuck.

Yeah, what **gingy** said. What it really means in practice is that during the weekdays I follow the Flex plan as if I were trying to lose weight. Then on the weekends I pretty much do whatever I want. The net effect is something akin to maintaining my weight, give or take a few pounds here and there over the course of the past 10 years.

At this point I’ve more than made back the money I paid to WW, but I’m afraid to leave them - I still love food WAY TOO MUCH and could easily be swayed back to those old shitty habits I used to practice.

I would like to point out that Scout’s weight loss is the most dramatic I think I’ve seen, even though it was relatively little. I could not believe it was the number she gave.

I hope you don’t think I’m trying to make this all about me, but after reading that comment, I thought I’d post a before and after photo. I lost 26 pounds, for the record.

Anyway, if you all are ready to make permanent changes to your life, and feel like eating healthy and getting active is truly important to you, honest to God it can be done. It won’t always be easy, but not much that is worthwhile is, right?

My second full day of Core. Ugh. I am one of those people who has to get used to it, over the course of a couple of weeks. I remember that when I really had it going last time, I could have a cup of soup for lunch and not need anything till dinner. Today, I needed morning AND afternoon AND evening snacks, even though my meals were substantial. Pathetic. But, I’ll snap out of it and my body will begin behaving sensibly again.

Bellydanced last night. Feel okay today. Am prepared for the “corset of pain” tomorrow.

Welcome new members!

192.3 this morning, so I’m down 20 pounds from my peak. My wife teases me about weighing myself every day, but it is the best way to remind myself how much I have to lose by gaining and gain by losing.

I’ll share one of my techniques in case anyone else finds it useful. Although I’m naturally a night owl, I try to force myself to go to bed as early as possible – ideally 8:00 or 8:30. I noticed that a large part of my snacking and bad eating is at night after the kids are asleep and I am relaxing. If I go to bed, then I avoid that altogether. If I find myself getting really hungry at night and my resolve is breaking down, I just head for bed. I remind myself that as soon as I’m asleep, I won’t be hungry. Probably a bigger effect from this is that I have more energy (physical and mental) the next day. It keeps my will-power strong and helps keep me from getting sick.

I realized this morning that I have to interview to residencies in just under a year. Naturally the suits I bought for med school interviews are too small. I recently lost 5 lbs on my surgery rotation just by virtue of long hours and not having time to snack but I’m sure I gained most of that back over the holidays. My overall goal is to lose 35 lbs and get to my ideal body weight but I absolutely have to lose the 15-20 that will have me looking good in those suits.

Back on the straight and narrow after the Christmas/New Year break, which didn’t go as well as I’d hoped. OTOH some of our New Year guests were commenting on how much I’d lost, and once the over-abundant calorie-rich temptations are out of the way (as they are now) I hope to be making progress again soon.

Yesterday was the first day of officially getting back to business; although I’d kept up with the walking over the last few days - about 28 miles over the last five - the eating wasn’t as under control as it needs to be. But yesterday I had no real difficulty sticking to it.

Weigh-in day has changed to Sunday as I may be unable to manage Monday evenings in the near future (and couldn’t on New Year’s Eve) and in _Weakest Link_ terms I’ve said “Bank!” to last year’s losses and am now on Week One of a new run at it.

_blinks slightly at **Aesiron** ’s figures, never having been knowingly within 70# of that top weight, but not within 30# of 179 since 1980 at least, either._

I, too, am doing WW Flex (online, not meetings). Core seems like it would be too difficult for me to follow accurately (the whole “eat until satisfied” thing), plus my husband does a lot of the cooking and it’s all I can do to get him to make my food Flex-safe. Core would be way out.

I, too, was ambushed on New Year’s Eve, albeit in a slightly different way. My kids had a playdate with the kids up the street and we got a last-minute invite to stay for dinner. The mom and I made us this soup that is finished with whipping cream. I was so close to asking her to ladle me out a serving before adding the cream, but that felt weird. Still, you really can’t pretend to eat a bowl of soup. It’s not like you can push it around your plate. Oh, and then there were the 2 glasses of wine…Nothing that really broke the bank, necessarily, but it does all add up.

Anyhow, gym time has been nonexistent as well, as I’m still doing PT a few times a week for my back and neck injury. Hopefully this will all even out soon.

Can I play?

I have already lost most of the weight I wanted to. I’m a 5’ 5" woman who weighed 180 in May of '06, and I’ve lost 31 pounds. I’m now 149, but I’d like to lose 5-10 more pounds. Yet all the things I have done in the past have stopped working, seemingly. I still live mostly on salads, avoid white carbs and snack on celery sticks and apples, and I try to walk/run/weightlift at least three times a week. Still, I’m hovering at 149-150. What’s going on here?

Heck, we’ll let anyone in! 😉

Maybe you and **tdn** can start your own ‘branch’: the SDMB Plateau Club. My best guess would be either, A, your body has gotten bored with what you’re doing and you need to mix it up a little (ask **gingy** about the Wendie plan) or B, your goal weight is unrealistic. I don’t know how old you are. I do know that women tend to set their goal weight somewhere around where they were when they graduated high school. Once you pass 30, that’s just not realistic any more!

Best of luck!
