Did everyone see this over at the DailySpark…the 11 Worst Foods of 2008?
A lot of those just looked gross to me, and whoever thought of mixing egg nog with ice cream should be taken out back and shot through the head.

Y’all convinced me. I will definitely do my 1200 today. I have chicken thawing so I should be good to go with the added protein, as well.
Sooooo frustrating. It’s only 10-15 lbs and it might as well be a hundred!
In Wegman’s the other day, they were giving out free samples of LightFull smoothies. I tried the chocolate one and liked the taste well enough (although it might be gross - sometimes I like gross chocolate things!). Since it’s 90 calories, 0.5 g fat and 5 g fiber, it’s only 1 Weight Watchers point, which is pretty cool.
I’ve been throwing in interval training since late November. (Treadmill runs are boring, but it’s above 0 degrees inside and I have the advantage of being able to monitor/measure how fast I’m going and for how long. So it’s pretty easy to throw in a half mile at 7mph, 1 mile at 6mph, repeat kind of thing.)
However it looks like I’m going to have to change up completely for the next couple weeks anyway. My running shoes are shot, to the point that the last three days have made my feet hurt, so they are retired as of now. I’m waiting until Jan. 15 to get new ones since it’s just after the billing cycle cutoff on my credit card, so I’ll have 6 weeks to maybe, perhaps, get an extra bit of work somewhere that might be worth $100.
The main reason I stick with running is because it’s the most efficient exercise – higher calorie burn per minute than anything else (including rowing, surprisingly). So we’ll see how this goes. I’m going to need an ass-pad for the rowing machines – the seats are hard plastic and really uncomfortable.
The good news: I only gained half a pound over the whole Xmas family fiasco, which I’ve already lost again. Sorta surprised at this, too – between a thousand family households that all wanted a piece of me, and a full day’s worth of travel each way, I had little time for exercise, so I got home feeling ginormously bloated.
Kaio, do you have access to a gym that offers classes? Also, check out your local bootcamps (where are you located?). Many of them offer free trial classes.
I did the bootcamp class before I taught my spinning class today, and all I can say is that I am very glad I have a massage in half an hour!
Hey guys Checking in to the thread. I will be a 4 year maintainer in February, but after spending a month in TX due to a death in the family, my jeans are kind of snug. I have a big work event the last week in February and I need my business suits to fit well. So - I have about 6 weeks for Operation Business Suit! I am trying to lose about 5 lbs.
EmAnJ: No. Gyms that offer classes want lots of money that I don’t have. For $15 a month I get a room with machines in it. Good enough.
Thanks - I’m feeling better about it today, after another day of eating better and some time at the gym.
Go go everyone!
I was able to leave the house today and eat solid food!
I am 153.4 pounds so no major damage while I was out. I can’t even believe I weigh that little. Last time was what, eighth grade? I can’t even remember.
Tomorrow I may try to go to the grocery store and get some healthy whole foods. It’s been too long since real food has been in my kitchen.
Okay, I might as well join up as this might motivate me to keep up my exercising.
I was up to 226 lb. in May 2007. I had just quit antidepressants because a) they didn’t work and b) they made me gain weight in a way I hadn’t since I had been on prednisone. I lost about 28 lbs by December of 07, but then life got in the way and I only lost about 3 lb. last year. This year I’m determined to get closer to my target weight of 170 lb or a size 14, whichever comes first.
I’m cooking at home more and I’ve got a couple of different workouts that I switch between. One is the 3-mile “Walk the Dog” route and the other 45-minute yoga DVD. (I want to get a Wii Fit but since everyone else in the world wants one too, I may have to wait until tax refund time.) My goal is to do one or the other of these five days a week. I’d go to the gym, but I keep getting into fights with people over the ellipticals every couple of months when I do go, so that ain’t happening. (It’s a university rec center filled with entitlement brats.)
That’s all for now. I might check out SparkPeople later, but I have problems with BMI calculators and I’m not organized enough to count calories. Every time I do I start eating less and that’s not the way to go at all.
Did the doctors ever figure out what was going on?
I caved and joined SparkPeople. I’m helenseidolon there, too. I’m still not ready to commit to tracking everything, and I’m okay with a slow loss, but I think this is a step in a good direction.
In signing up, I committed to telling one person about my goal - I’m telling a whole bunch here! Let’s start off slow - 2 pounds in the next 2 weeks. I think this will be good just to keep it on my mind during a pretty stressful period (I’m going to be starting to teach my first ever university class all by myself!)
That soup sounds quite good. Think I will try this. Thank you.
So I have finally joined at SparkPeople (damn you Lauren). How do I find people? I’m GingyNorth there; maybe you all should just find me.
Darling, you look Mahrvelous! My fav is the one with red flowers!
For you guys joining SparkPeople, set up a SparkPage, then we can friend you.
Mwahaha! Sorry, Gingy. It does look like a fun tool, especially since I just cancelled my WW monthly pass. I’m still planning on trying to hit some meetings on a per-meeting basis, but I just haven’t been able to get there, especially since the friend who used to go with me moved away.
That’s awesome! Losing weight is so hard, but you have a lot of rewards along the way–fitting into clothes, seeing the numbers go down, feeling better–but *staying *healthy, that’s hard. Good for you!
Not yet. My doctor doesn’t have a clue. I have to see a GI, but in the meantime I’ve got a couple general purpose stomach medications (one for acid reflux and one for IBS) that seem to be helping somewhat. I am… cautiously optimistic that they will figure it out, but it’s going to take a while, possibly some months, before we have an answer.
I’m a long time lurker of these threads, every now and then, but I just wanted to compliment you! I love your work dress, it is my favorite! And I like your arms. Some day I’ll be able to showcase them like that.
Weight wise, I’m finally in the normal BMI for my height, but I was never too far from it anyways. What’s weird is that even though the scales say that I weight the same as last year (well, within 2 pounds), everybody that hasn’t seen me in a while says I’ve lost a lot. Probably exercise has more to do with that, and I intend to keep going on and training.
