I agree with Beatle, to an extent, that it doesn’t matter what color we are. However, I think that so much is being done to make sure people become “color blind” that we sometimes fail to appreciate diversity. Just because someone mentions race, it does not make him/her a racist. That word is thrown around way too often IMO.
I don’t want to walk around this earth ignoring everyone’s race. Let’s not numb ourselves to our differences. Diversity is a beautiful thing.

I don’t think it’s healthy to “quit caring” about race. People are getting too PC these days. If I misunderstood the meaning of “quit caring”, I apologize, but wondering if there are any black SDMB’ers and judging their posts based on their race are two different things.
All in all, I think it’s good to have some sensitivity when it comes to different races, but let’s not totally de-sensitize ourselves.
Neil, Neil, orange peel!
I think to look for race over message boards is a little biased, because to identify someone’s race like this, we’ll all be looking for stereotypes, and that’s not valid indentification

Ars Technica is probably the ultimate geek UBB board. It is a forum for PC hardware enthusiast, those of us overclocking our CPU’s and modifying our cases. Of the half dozen most popular posters, one is half black half asian. I also know of at least one other black poster, and who knows how many less regular posters are. On the other hand, there are only about a half dozen women who are regular posters.
I guess my point is that the geek factor is not enough to explain it if there truly is a derth of black people on this board. (Though it certainly could be a factor) Though I can’t imagine it is the fault of any of y’all.
We’re not trying to lump people together by race or stereotype them – quite the opposite. Let’s be realistic - the issue of race does arise - frequently it’s made an issue by a particular ethnic group. It is often a topic on the SDMB. All I’m saying (and Satan too, I think) is that it just might lead to a greater understanding, tolerance, and appreciation of other ethnic groups to have their views on topics that are germane.
Even though I’ve already been “outed” by Tom thereby making this post unneccessary:
Yes Satan, I am a black man.
On my SDMB reg status, that’s probably another matter entirely.
Tell a man that there are 400 billion stars and he’ll believe you. Tell him a bench has wet paint and he has to touch it.

I hope you do not take offense… It was never my intention.
Yer pal,
Satan
On the other hand, Sterling, I would definitely say you were a Reg–a bit irregular at times, but a Reg.

I am a Russet so I don’t know if I count or not.
Well, I saw not prejudiced intent in Satans post at all. I saw a genuinely curious question as to why he didnt notice there were more black posters. Nothing wrong with an innocent question ;).
Anyway, most of you probably know i’m half Filipino / half white. Filipinos are probably rare here. The only other who MAY be Filipino is Jorge, but then again I am not sure.
Also, it’s true, most of us college students ont he board have free access, and copious amounts of spare time on our hands. At least I do.
It’s worth the risk of burning, to have a second chance…
Satan:
If I knew how to contact Walter, I’d send him straight here. Lib and I knew him from a board that shut down over a year ago.
Wonder if there’s any way he can be tracked down… He’d love this place and you, him.

Well, Satan, in folklore the devil is often represented as black. OK, it’s “black as in metaphor for evil”, but still, you shouldn’t deny your genetic heritage like that.
