My own belief system, though one stemming from a non-specific but basically Christian background. In my family, religion as a whole isn’t so much deliberately atheist or agnostic as simply… unimportant. My grandmother on my dad’s side is the only person who ever even mentions a god (she’s a Catholic that prefers to attend a Unitarian church). So I was left alone to come to my own decisions. I decided early on that I believe in a creator of sort, though not one that ever interferes with or takes any notice of anyone’s life. I get a little insulted when people assume that means I’m a Christian. The whole Jesus thing just never made sense to me, and it seems like that should be a basic requirement to being considered one. 😃 ---

I definitely believe in a higher power. I have floated about in my life being Christian, but got turned off by some of those who call themselves Christian. Then I became Pagan, but got turned off by all the flakes. (“Ooooo look at me, I am a PAGAN, I am a WITCH, I am SO SCARY!”) So now I just worship and don’t worry about what other people call it. ---

I’m an agnostic who believes in ghosts and sometimes hopes he’s wrong (but that so are the Fundamentalists of all faiths). I’m not so much an atheist as I just haven’t found the right god yet. ---

I don’t know if there is a creator or creators. I don’t know if there are higher beings that do care or don’t care about us. I don’t know if there is an afterlife. I flip-flop on these issues often. I believe in science but deep down where the kid in me still lives, I believe in Santa, Nessie and that 2 objects of different weights didn’t always fall at the same speed until Galileo convinced others that they did. I would like to believe that the Goddess Brigit still dislikes the fact that the RCC took her followers by creating St. Brigit. I like to believe that King Arthur lived. That Tolkien just interpreted the RedBook of WestMarch and Eru did create the world with 3 songs. Then my damn rational mind kicks in and rains on my parade. The more rational and the more analysis I apply, the more I don’t believe in “God”. Confused and unsure on these subjects is how I go through life. Jim ---

Functionally atheist, though it’s pretty much by default. See, I wasn’t raised religious, never went to church, therefore I was never trained to believe in a higher power. The only way I could convert to something would be if a god materialized behind me and kicked me in the ass. That said, I don’t think it’s impossible for gods to be created by their believers. ---

I like to tell people I’m a fallen-away Catholic, because in my twisted mind it sounds romantic. Basically it means that I like going to Mass, singing hymns, and just the general ambience of the whole thing (guilt and angst and pretty angels), but that I have my doubts as to the dogma.
