I was :dubious: at this “And I would have never thought of that because the East Coast seagulls aren’t that brazen. They’d never come into a room or do that sort of thing — at least I don’t think they would.” till I realized he meant the East Coast of Canada. The gulls there WOULD be less brazen than their US counterparts. Oh man, I got to the part where he had to hair-dry his muddy shoe, and the power went out. This guy can’t catch a break. ---

I’ve been to the East and the West of Canada, and the gulls on the west coast are bigger. CTV news ran this story with the headline, “Lifetime ban lifted 17 years after seagulls trash hotel room over suitcase of pepperoni,” which I think could win a headline contest. ---

I stayed at a place in Pismo where the gulls were quite happy to hang out on the balcony railing hoping for some kind of morsel. I have no doubt they would’ve flown in the room if they saw food with no human around. No wonder there was a big sign on the sliding glass door saying “Do not feed the birds!”
