Sean Hannity says he'll be waterboarded for charity-- will it happen?

Or just read his facebook page.

He has officially planted himself in the Irreversibly and Forever a Prick column. Fuck him.

The other 181 times would be for good luck.

A more effective fundraiser would have people placing bids for the opportunity to be the one to waterboard Hannity.

My predictions:

*He won’t do it.
*If he were actually being tortured, waterboarding would not be necessary. Throwing some water in his face would do the trick.
*If he does it, he’ll say it was bad, but not torture, and wow, the people who are getting waterboarded must be really bad!

I say we make the stakes interesting. A thousand liberals put up a thousand dollars apiece. Hannity has to match the funds with a million dollars of his own.

Then we lock Hannity up in a cell where he’ll be regularly tortured in a manner consistent with procedures sanctioned by the Bush administration. Hannity has a safeword that he can say at any time and he’ll be immediately released.

If he lasts one week he can keep all the money or donate it to any cause he wishs. But if he uses the safeword within a week then all of the money gets donated to ACORN.

And the safeword is “Hillary Clinton”.

For the record, this “journalists and commentators getting waterboarded” thing is played out. The first guy who did it was arguably educating the public; at this point it’s just attention whoring.

ETA: Which is somewhat ironic given how many of them really deserve medieval torture.

Waterboarding Hannity is problematic.

Watching him now is torture.

Watching him being tortured might not be entertaining, but it certainly wouldn’t be torture.

His torture will save millions the torture of watching him while he’s not undergoing torture.

OMG, it’s like torturing him will make him Christ-like – he will be tortured to spare the rest of us!

I don’t see that he has any other ethical choice.

“I want to munch Hillary Clinton’s cootchie.”

Dude’s gonna drown.

I would donate, in his name, money to the Gay Atheist Piracy foundation, if this ever happened.

Wait a second.

If Hannity does do this waterboarding…and it is filmed…will he be wearing a shirt or will be all be treated to seeing his pasty white moobs?

I think I just threw up in my mouth a little.

I just threw up on my floow a little.

Oh, never mind, that’s cat barf.

Why should he be the only one being tortured?

I like that a lot. I wouldn’t even insist on the week long ordeal, just with the waterboarding several times.

Liberal challengers collect a large sum of money and donate it upfront to a soldier’s families relief organization as a show of good faith (and it’s a worthy cause anyway). The waterboarding is held on some kind of PayPerView and the same organization gets that as well.

But, an extra million is raised and held in escrow and verified (ala James Randi’s Million) and if Hannity can go through it and never call out the safety word he can give the pot to any right wing non profit organization of his choosing. If not it all goes to Amnesty International (or the ACLU or something else that would make his head explode).

This thread got emailed to me and is actually what led me to the dope!

Olbermann takes the bet:

BEST CHALLENGE IN THE WOOOOORLLLLDDD! Gotta love Keith. Sometimes.

I can’t do $1,000 per second, but I’ll gladly pledge $1 per second and there are many thousands of others who’d do the same. And lots of lefty millionaires need to match this (Sean Penn, Matt Damon, George Clooney, Barbra Streisand- step up to the plate and get out your checkbooks). I’d love to see it rise to $10,000 per second or so- something he can’t back down from without looking like a total coward.

And I think I’ll write Olbermann and suggest he erect a Best Challenge in the World website.

My email to Olbermann’s show (countdown@msnbc.com):

Anyone else who’s willing please email him and say something similar. I’d LOVE to see this get up to something like $15,000 per second.

Is it? The only person I know of doing it is Scylla and some random guy on Youtube I found after reading Scylla’s post. Granted, I tend to avoid sensational media, but probably not any more than the average joe. I’m not saying that a lot of people haven’t already done it, I’m just saying plenty of us aren’t aware of that. Now that I’ve read this, I’ll watch if Hannity goes through with it.

One problem with this whole waterboard stunt is that it could well be used to support the case that torture works.
Hannity could undergo this waterboarding and come up after a few seconds saying “holy crap that was bad (but not torture bad) and I can now tell you I would have told them everything I know to make it stop, hence as nasty as it was, water boarding is nessasary and works and wouldn’t you like that to happen to people who hate America”

I think they should start asking him where the bodies are buried, and keep going until he either tells them where the bodies are burried, or say give him 5 minutes max of this.
If he last 5 minutes - we can concede maybe water boarding isn’t torture.

If he gives up the location of the bodies - we have someone go digging
- if it they find bodies, yay unsolved murder solved and we can concede torture works (not saying we should do it though)
- if they don’t find bodies we can then say - yes it is torture and it is useless and as interrogation tool.

Well I am sure there are variations on this, but the main point is - waterboarding hanity, as viscerally pleasing could just end up supporting the torture works viewpoint.

I have a bit of a problem with this. I think the reply from the right won’t be “the money doesn’t exist”, but “they won’t allow torture of terrorists, but they’ll pay to torture a conservative talk show host”.

I’m against waterboarding. Ideally, it would never be done to anybody, at any time. As an issue of public interest, we should know about it. Journalists have subjected themselves to it to enlighten the rest of us, and I applaud them for it. It may help soldiers to know about and prepare for it in case they’re tortured by an enemy. But this isn’t something to mess around with, and it shouldn’t be done as a stunt.

And that’s how this strikes me so far, as a stunt. I know who Sean Hannity is, but I’ve never watched his show. The clip with Charles Grodin makes him seem shockingly casual and evasive.

I’ll admit to being curious; whether he’s bluffing, whether he’d actually do it, and how he handle the experience. But I won’t pay to make it happen.
