Its a thread maybe 2 months old, about making music by rubbing a wet finger on wine glasses. Tried search, but came up empty.

Sound familiar to anyone?

I think the thread you’re looking for was posted in GQ on Jan. 18 and titled “high frequencies break glass?”.

**x-ray vision** seems correct.

> The resonant frequency of the glass can be found by wetting a finger and running it slowly around the rim. After the right wetness is achieved you get a nice clear tone from a thin, high quality glass.

In this article, linked in the original thread, is a reference to a wine glass, although not in the same context.

Not quite.

The half-remembered thread I speak of regards making actual music using a series of wine glasses…that or a wine glass instrument (a harmonium…invented by Ben Franklin(I believe)).

Like I said, searched, and came up empty.

A harmonium uses metal reeds. An armonica uses glass. Is this Cafe Society thread the one you were looking for? [Who would I go to to purchase my very own glass armonica?](http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=176521)

Since this is a question about this message board, I’ll move this thread to ATMB.
