I’ve made the step in acknowledging that I have problems that I can’t solve on my own, and I have also found that talking to friends and family only seem to make things worse. So, I’m getting help.

Unfortunately I have no idea how to go about this, so I’m asking if any Seattle dopers know of any good therapists (whether you have personally seen them or know somebody who has, doesn’t matter), in the city that I can look into.

All the websites I’m finding want me to pay for a list of qualified psychiatrists, which is a bit annoying.

Thanks to anyone who can help me out.

Isn’t there a U of Washington hospital? They will have a psychiatry department. Also, are you looking for medication or a therapist? If you are interested in meds, it is indeed a psychiatrist you want. If it is therapy you want, you should probably look for a psychologist.

Your medical doctor might be able to make a referral, or ask friends. Absent that, lots of people just find someone through their insurance or the phone book. I am a psychologist, and many of my new clients find me through one of those sources. Feel free to ask questions of the person you contact, like amount they charge, if they have seen clients with your problems, etc.
