Boil an egg and wrap it in a paper towel and apply it to the area. The egg stays hot for a lot longer than most things (and it’s readily available), otherwise there is nothing special about using an egg.
Labial cysts can also be pretty much like any other sebaceous cyst. Fortuantely mine decided to disappear after the last squeezing. Some you just cannot squeeze and get anything to come out. Ones that are not inflamed are the most difficult to burst. Hot compresses seem to do little to nothing to a cyst that is not infected. A friend had one on his eyelid for years. Doc said that it was a s. cyst and that it was not worth risking surgery to get rid of it. He finally tried squeezing and it worked. He was damned lucky.
I had a good-sized cyst – sebaceous, I guess, from the descriptions here, on my cheek in my mid-20’s. Guys I worked with nicknamed me Cherrybomb. That was nice. Anyway, I tried the sterile needle thing and the damn thing just rolled around, wouldn’t stay put. Took a few tries, but eventually I punctured and drained it. Came back. Did it again. Third time lucky. Got one just at the juncture of neck and shoulder now. Anyway, I saw a dermatologist about the first one. He never told me the technical term, and said he couldn’t recommend removing it until he treated me for acne. Then he started talking real expensive creams. I said “Thanks, I’ll live with it.”
Thanks for the input on this problem–I initially did suspect that it was caused by an ingrown hair, since I’ve had them in the past. My doctor dismissed this notion but I don’t believe him 100% (he’s a little weird). Hopefully I’ll get to the bottm of it soon!
astro, I challenge you.
Oh, no. Oh, please, no! Not Broomstick’s story again!

Hmmmm… very well little mister. From the bowels of the SDMB. The dark thread that many newbies have never seen and never should see. Here it is - The TMI Thread
Band name!
I think the horse smegma removal thread was far grosser. http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?threadid=101735&highlight=horse+smegma
Not for nothin’, but this would make an excellent sig.
My only recommendation for issues like this (if you have insurance) is to see a dermatologist. I went with a cystic acne problem WAY too long trying every home remedy in the book before visiting a doc, who put me on a regimine that cleared me up beautifully within weeks. Don’t suffer if you have insurance and can get to the doc.
Agreed. I went to the on campus health center recently for two skin problems - my face had started breaking out horribly since my move, and my eczema was coming back for the first time in years. I left with three prescriptions, a diagnosis of adult-onset cystic acne, and my face is looking a thousand times better after just two weeks.
