FWIW, the mesh face shields on chainsaw helmet combos are intended to keep wood chips out of your eyes and not to stop a rotating chainsaw blade. ---

My mishap was while cutting fallen deadwood, it had been raining the day before and the detritus on the forest floor was still pretty wet. I used to jam the toe of my boot into the gap between the tubular handle and the body of the saw and give a sharp tug on the starter cord to fire the saw up. It was the third or fourth time doing this that the wet sole of my boot slipped out just as I pulled, resulting in the saw flipping up and the (not moving) chain blade hitting me in the forehead. Lesson learned… ---

::::: cringe :::::: Many years ago, a couple of folks from work were at one of the guys’ houses, working to remove a tree. The one with the chainsaw somehow managed to catch the other guy under the arm - doing some damage but fortunately nothing TOO grave; the injured one had to go to the ER to have it cleaned out and stitched. He wound up with a scar (and a brief, quickly-treated localized infection), the fellow with the chainsaw felt pretty rotten about it as he was normally VERY careful. They’re fortunate that the injured one still had both arms. That very same weekend, a Bloom County cartoon featuring Bill the Cat chasing someone with a chainsaw was in the paper. A copy mysteriously appeared in the chainsaw guy’s cubicle, appropriately labelled :). (no, it wasn’t me, though I sure wished I’d thought of it). ---

There’s a show on DIY called “Renovation Realities” where total amateurs tackle home improvement projects. I’ve only seen the cameramen intervene once, when someone opened a gas line, and he hustled everyone out of the house. They really, really should have stopped [this guy](https://youtu.be/qUjgmSh9bmE). Using a chainsaw, horizontally, at neck height, up against a chain link fence. You could see the disaster coming a mile away. ---
