There were comparisons between Quayle’s and Robert Redford’s appearances, prompting Redford to greet a Democratic campaign crowd, “Good evening. I’m Dan Quayle”. Comedian Elaine Boozler joked that by choosing a running mate even more conservative than Bush on women’s issues, Republicans were treating women voters like “bowling alley waitresses—‘Yeah, he treats me bad, but he’s so damn good-lookin’, I can’t help but love him’”. ---

But that actually reinforces my point: if Quayle’s youth and inexperience was a factor, it wasn’t enough to prevent Bush from getting elected in 1988. Ergo, the choice of Quayle as a VP pick wasn’t a huge detriment in that campaign. ---

She’s not out in front on much apart from her Senate role, but then apart from Dick Cheney very few VPs were. ---

Based on 128 days in office. It’s true John Tyler, Andrew Johnson, and Harry Truman had already become President by then, but Harris has lapped William R. King almost three times! ---
