Secret Ceremony (1968)

As a long-time Elizabeth Taylor fan, I was hunting around Amazon.com for DVDs that I don’t have, and I stumbled across Secret Ceremony. Apparently, she plays a middle-aged prostitute who becomes some sort of twisted mother figure to an insane Mia Farrow, who then attempts to seduce her into a pseudo-incestuous sexual relationship.

WTF?!

Has anyone seen this? A couple of reviews at Amazon.com were really positive, saying that Elizabeth turned in a performance in the vein of Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf. I’m going to get a copy of it pretty soon, but it’s OOP and I have to get it from a independent seller, so it might be a few weeks before I see it.

Spoil me, please? Is it a good film? Anywhere near as good as Virginia Woolf?

Haven’t seen the movie so my only knowledge of it comes from its inclusion in the book Bad Movies We Love. The authours give it two hearts out of four, which means “proceed at your own risk.”

lmao, thanks. That does tell me a little something. Leonard Maltin supposedly gave it a fairly favourable review, so it’s hard to tell. I think it might fall somewhere in the middle – really good bits and pieces, but failing to come together overall.

Well, anyway, it couldn’t possibly be as bad as Boom!. Nothing can be as bad as Boom!.
