Are the little rainbow stickers, i see on people’s cars, a secret gay society thing. Please excuse my insensitivity, I’ve always wondered. And is there any truth to the rumor that Jamie Lee Curtis is a hermaphrodite? More than a few people I know, believe this to be true. ---

Yes, those rainbow stickers are the symbol of a secret gay society who are out to get you. And yes Jaimee Lee Curtis is a hermaphrodite, and president of the Secret Rainbow Society. And yes there are exactly three words in the English language that end in “gry”. Two are “angry” and “hungry”, the other one you can only find out by joining the Secret Rainbow Society. And I thought this was going to be about that Masonic-related organization for teen girls: “Rainbow Girls” (sort of a distaff DeMolay) … They have a rainbow symbol, with the letters BFCL under the arc … BFCL - - - Boy Friends Come Last ??? maybe I am still on point? ---

The Tandy Color Computer’s main magazine was called “The Rainbow,” playing on the CoCo’s color abilities compared with other TRS-80 systems. They sponsored conventions called “Rainbowfests” and, though the magazine went under a few years back, CoCo devotees still signal their devotion by putting rainbow stickers on everything they own. In other words, either those stickers DON’T mean the driver is gay, or else there are an awful lot of gays who like obsolete computers. ---

My only knowledge of their group was the mild resentment I had for them because they got to wear pretty dresses instead of “grecian” robes. ---

(Sorry. My brain froze up for a moment there.) Without disputing your facts regarding the Tandy Color Computer and its avid followers, I must state that the vast majority of automotive-borne rainbow stickers do, indeed, signify gay pride. Either that, or the Tandy Corporation is expending an awful lot of effort promoting their defunct product under the souvenir tents at gay pride parades and in gift shops in San Francisco, Greenwich Village and on Cherry Grove, Fire Island. The Rainbow, a distressingly generic symbol in my estimation, has vastly overshadowed several older, less widely-known gay pride symbols, including the Lambda (a Greek letter) and the Labrys (a two-headed battle axe used exclusively to denote lesbian or “dyke” pride.) It’s colors signify either the spectrum of human sexuality or the myriad qualities of gay people, depending upon whom you ask. Believe it or not, the 1994 Stonewall 25 gay pride parade in New York City, featured a **mile long, thirty foot wide** rainbow flag. Pretty cool, huh?
