My favorite, although not in my current hometown. Mike Chili Parlor in Seattle. The family owns the building and lot, thus why they weren’t obliterated by the development that covers the rest of the block.
I hope it’s still the same well-loved place it was when I lived there. Beer, chili and a crusty cast of regulars and bartenders.
And now a side trip down to the New Orleans metro area.
I remember this place from the Eighties when it was the Sugar Bowl, part of an entire strip of motels with a well-deserved reputation for being seedy. A CVS was built on the site between five & 9 years ago.
I love Mike’s! “Seedy” is not how I’d describe it, since the chili is so good. But I only go there at lunchtime for chili-to-go, so it could be very different at 9am or 9pm.
Yeah, maybe ‘seedy’ is not exactly correct, but in terms of the neighborhood around it now it might be a good term from a relative perspective. It’s beat up and blue collar in a part of town that is running away from that reputation.
Probably not all that seedy but this is a seasonal roadside stand which has been in business for at least 36 years. We lived about a dozen houses down a side street during my Junior & Senior years of high school.
Okay, let’s try it again (the links in my previous post have detailed information).
