Seeking to solve a cell phone in the car connectivity issue

Which makes me quite sad. In the past I was a died in the wool card carrying fanboi. I attended the World Wide Developers conference in 1999 when Apple were doomed, and saw Steve introduce OSX. I my wrote on thesis on a Powerbook 170, which was a 68020 based machine with 8 megabytes of memory and 80 megabytes of disk. (I still have it, although it won’t turn on anymore.) I count as one of the ever faithful.
So I really do get upset when they turn their back on some of the core principles that made them great.
Back when the Mac was brought into the world Apple had one of the best UI teams on the planet. They actively researched what worked and what people would actually do and use. Then they let the crayon brigade at it.

I will say that if you’re at all handy you should be able to find a android auto/apple carplay head unit on Amazon for under 200 bucks. I found several with a quick search.

These units are designed to use your existing wiring harnesses and are about as plug and play as you can get. But if you’ve done zero work on cars and ate intimidated by it, ask for some help locally getting it installed.

My youngest has a 2013 dodge avenger and goes to college out of state. I was dismayed to find out that navigation was being done with a cellphone resting on a thigh. So we bought a unit and installed it. Mine came with a backup camera that’s a completely optional install (but we did it). Now we’ve got navigation on screen plus hands-free calling and messaging as well as music.
