# Self-loader, or Bolt-action? Why?

Sounding in just to echo **Dallas Jones**.

If I’m high on ridge line, in a tree stand, I want the bolt-action with a 3x9 Redfield wide field scope. I’ll have a good shot at a deer 300+ yards away.

If I’m in closer quarters with maybe 100’ treeline, I’ll take a semi-auto or lever-action with iron sights.

Much closer than that, I have a shotgun.
