Of course, Guinastasia. After all, homosexuality is so much more attractive and fun than plain old heterosexuality that the only thing keeping all the straight people in America from jumping into bed with the first same-sex person they see in the morning is religious prohibition.
Of course, after hearing some of the fundamentalists’ moral “reasoning”, you’d think that religious prohibition is the only reason they aren’t all out murdering, raping, and child molesting as well.

Marriage is a sacrament in this country. Which is why, of course, we whore it out weekly on TV to sell fucking Snicker Bars with Who Wants to Marry a Millionaire and Married by America and Billy Jo Bob Jim Dave asking his first cousin to marry him on Jerry Springer and The Bachelor and I Married Carrot-Top or whatever retarded “reality” show they’re going to think up next.
As you may or may not have figured … “Marriage is sacred …” I detest that argument.
Hey, I’m conservative as hell. I believe in low taxes, and small government that handles government business and stays the hell out of my face.
Therefore, using this logic, the government should also stay out of the gay people’s faces. And their bedrooms.
However, the current “conservative” contingent is working like hell to gather power and stay in office. Consequently, one must pander to powerful interests. And the religious right is a powerful interest, if only because a great many people seem to listen to crazy right-wing preachers, for some reason.
It’s not a moral thing. It’s a political thing. When some politician is agreeable to installing a video camera in his OWN bedroom, just to verify that there ain’t no sodomy going on there, I may begin to believe otherwise.
Frist is grandstanding, that’s all.
Let us remember this, come the next election.
California used to be a liberal state, but lately it’s an apathetic state.
One year there was a proposition on the ballot that proposed adding some kind of factoid about a politician’s voting record directly to the ballot, right next to the little hole where you punched Yes or No. The very people that wrote the proposition said in the voter information guide not to vote for this proposition, as it was badly written and would probably be struck down in the courts. They tried to pull it off the ballot but they missed the deadline. And yet, the goddamned thing passed because no one read the fucking guide. And it was struck down.
I’m still trying to figure out what real moral ‘value’ hetero marriage has. Under this protecting the sanctity of marriage, I can still get boozed up marry the first floozy dumb or drunk enough to say yes. And I can do it 100 times if I choose. Where’s the sacrement in that?

However, Frist is totally wrong in his opposition to gay marriage. Legalizing gay marriage will do nothing as far as heterosexual marriage, other than forcing folks to admit that gays exist and will always exist.
The really sad part of it is that he was elected. Someone, a whole lot of someones, elected this fellow. That says a lot.

I would love to hear how a couple of friends of mine who will be celebrating their 10th anniversary on Labor Day weekend are more damaging to marriage than, say, Newt Gingrich who’s currently on his 3rd wife. Does anyone know if Frist’s been divorced?

He is, however, wrong to be spouting about a Constitutional Ammendment against gay marriage. I agree that he is grandstanding and posturing. It turns my stomach.
I have an idea. Gays need to organize and plan a march on Washington AGAINST gay marriage. They should protest loudly! Carry signs that say, “You Can’t Make Us Marry!” and “Bed without Wed.” It will confuse the Christian Right and government decision makers who will immediately draft laws to force marriage on gay couples. (heh, heh)

I know 10 gay couples that have been together for more than 5 years but I only know on ONE straight couple thats been together for that long. Marriage a sacrament? GIVE ME A FUCKING BREAK!!
