Unfortunately, the house did vote to repeal Civil Unions. It seems unlikely to become law, though, because the Senate has been very vocal in opposition. The chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committe has said that it won’t even be taken up this year or next year, as it’s viewed as not necessary.
It still makes me sad, though, that I work 300 feet away from a bunch of people, the majority of which have as much as said “So what if you’ve been with your girlfriend for nine years. So what if you went to get a civil union certificate on the first day they were offered? We don’t think that you qualify as married. We don’t think that you should be recognized as such.”
I love the lilacs. They’re my favorite flower. I picked a bouquet on the way into work this morning, still covered with night rain, and they’re sitting on my desk now. Ah…
