Well, yeah, that’s what Romney’s problem really is…the fact that he ran in the past as being pro-choice and pro-gay rights, and now he’s totally changed those positions around.
Wonder if the religious conservatives will buy a “What happens in Massachusetts, stays in Massachusetts” line.
Brownback was on the ABC Sunday Morning show. He was talking about how all life is sacred, and it sounded like he was against the death penalty. To paraphrase, he said something like “I believe all life is sacred, whether it is an unborn child, an AIDS orphan in Africa, or a man in prison.”
While I despise Brownback and his ilk, it is nice to finally see one of these “life is sacred” jerk-offs actually take a consistent position WRT the death penalty. (If he is indeed against the death penalty, he didn’t say explicitly but it sure sounded like it.)

I don’t think he’s against the Death Penalty. I don’t have much time to look, but at Sam Brownback on the Issues they say he “strongly favors” it. I don’t know where their information is from.
It also says he’s a Methodist, not RC.

Hmm, then I wonder WTF he was talking about.

Hmm. Honestly, it looks like he’s a little vague on purpose. From here
I believe America must establish a culture of life. If use of the death penalty is contrary to promoting a culture of life, we need to have a national dialogue vetting both sides of the issue. All life is sacred, and our use of the death penalty in the American justice system must recognize this truth.

Here is a video clip from the Wichita Eagle where Sentator Brownback talks about his views on the death penalty.
I’ve got to say that, personally, I still don’t know for sure where he stands after seeing this.
He’s saying “culture of life” but then saying, “IF the DP is against that…”

He’s gotten used to answering that one with the “I’ve learned and grown” dodge.
Here is the footage that’s been making the rounds of his 1994 debate with Kennedy.
Dana Milbank in this morning’s WaPo :
An hour later, Sen. Sam Brownback of Kansas, also a candidate for the Republican presidential nomination, entered the same room [the Family Research Council’s “Blog for Life” event] to noisy applause, a standing-room-only crowd and camera flashes. He fielded enthusiastic questions, then left after half an hour to a standing ovation.
On paper, there is little to separate Brownback from Hunter. Both have solid antiabortion credentials. And both are solidly in the dark-horse category. The weekend’s Washington Post-ABC News poll found Brownback’s support at 1 percent among Republican primary voters, while Hunter merited an asterisk; with the poll’s five-percentage-point margin of error, support for both men could be, theoretically, less than zero.
But Brownback has the power to alter the GOP presidential nomination, while Hunter is little more than a vanity candidate. The difference is in the reaction the two draw from Christian conservatives, who regard Brownback as a cult hero and Hunter, former chairman of the House Armed Services Committee, as a relative unknown.
Doesn’t prove anything, of course, but apparently I’m not the only observer who sees this opening.
