# Sending video from an Android device to a VGA projector?

I will be giving lectures in a room with a projector. The projector expects to receive a signal from the VGA output port of a laptop. But I don’t want to use a laptop, for various reasons.
Can I substitute an Android device? I have both an HTC phone (Android 5) and a Samsung tablet (Android 4), both with micro-USB ports. Does anyone know if an appropriate adapter exists? And if I need any special software? I will be playing mostly mp4 and flv and avi videos.

Please note that I am aware there are lots of adapters for sale on the web that will make the physical connection. I’m more curious about folks who might have had experiences with how well they actually work. Thanks!
