We watched the first episode of **Echo** on Netflix. Itā€™s a spinoff of The Disney+ _Hawkeye_ series. The first episode is background and a recap of events in _Hawkeye_ relating to one of the conflicted villains in that series. They designed it so a casual viewer unfamiliar with other MCU products can follow it. Putting it on Netflix means it might find a fan base beyond the one that already exists on Disney+. Two more shows (Wonder Man and new Daredevil series) are also slated to stream on Netflix under the Marvel Spotlight banner. ---

Hey, coincidentalIy I just started a rewatch of _Northern Exposure_ this week (from an offline set). I had planned on mentioning it in this thread. I hadnā€™t watched it since the first run and was surprised how quickly I recognized characters and names. Most of them look much younger than they looked to me 34 years ago. Iā€™m 19 episodes in and I had remembered that it was quirky, but had forgotten just how experimental it was. One of the most recent episodes flat-out shattered the 4th wall. There was about to be a pistol duel, and Joel interrupted that the audience was too smart to believe that either of them would die. Maggie complained about him breaking character then they all started discussing alternate script versions. Someone suggested that they just skip to the next scene, which they did. ---

It is on Disney+ up here in Canada. I tried to get through the first episode, even taking a break after the first 20 minutes, but I ended up quitting ~15 minutes from the end. Everything seemed to be a little off to me. The writing, acting, and even the music seemed to be subpar. Since the first episode is currently the highest rated of the five on IMDB, I doubt that I will come back to finish. Disney hasnā€™t been doing too well with their series with me lately. Obi Wan was pretty bad, I only made it a few episodes into Moon Knight, and the best episodes of the Book of Boba Fett were the Mandalorian heavy ones. ---

Another periodic update: As I finished my _ST:TNG_ rewatch (including the four movies), I finally started on _ST:Picard_. From the first episode, I was absolutely in love with the show, and I finished season one last night. Iā€™m not a part of any Trekker online communities so I donā€™t know how mainstream my opinion is, but Iā€™m convinced that this current era of Trek, that started with _Discovery_, and encompasses _Strange New Worlds_, _Picard_, _Lower Decks_ (and I guess _Prodigy_, though I probabnly wonā€™t see that one), is the absolute peak of the franchise. I like the 80s/90s stuff, but itā€™s so freaking clean and well-mannered. Finally the world of the Federation looks lived-in, something other franchises had figured out long ago. Didnā€™t like _Loki_ the first time I watched it, a couple of summers ago. Maybe I was watching it with half-attention, but I couldnā€™t make head or tail of the variant stuff. As the new season was out, I decided to give it another chance, and rewatched season one. Which was basically as if for the first time, so I really must not have been paying attention. Anyway, itā€™s gone from second-least-favorite D+MCU show to near the top. ---

I think most people would agree with you about Strange New Worlds and Lower Decks, and maybe the third season of Picard. But Discovery? Most Trek fans I know think Discovery is close to the lowest point in the Trek universe. I certainly do. The only good thing about Discovery, IMO, is that it brought in Anson Mount in as Christopher Pike. And for me, just about the only watchable epidodes were the ones with Christopher Pike. Other than that, itā€™s pretty much anti-Trek with the technobabble turned up to 11. ---

The first couple seasons of **Discovery** were good enough that I signed up for Paramount. After they jumped into the future (season 3?), I quickly lost interest. ---

**The Fall of the House of Usher** I only have a very superficial understanding of Poe (mostly from The Simpsons!) but that didnā€™t stop me enjoying this a lot (or maybe it helpedā€¦?) Bruce Greenwood was as reliable as ever as the patriarch, and Carla Gugino is also excellent as his familyā€™s tormentor. I loved the production design (just as with _Haunting of Hill House_) and the whole feel of the series. Took a little while to get into but after a couple of episodes was hooked. ---

I can only concur on all points. I finished _ST: Prodigy_. Honestly, there were a lot fewer plots holes than a lot of other ST shows have had. Solid writing, decent character arcs, about the same level of technobabble as every other Trek show, and clearly a lot of love for the franchise from the people who made it. ---
