Watching **Manhunt** on Apple TV and I’m learning a lot about the aftermath of Lincoln’s Assassination that I was unware of. If even half of it is true, Edwin Stanton was one of the greatest heroes in American History. ---

**The Gentleman** (Netflix, 2024, 1 se) Almost done with the season and I cannot wait for future installments. Guy Ritchie can churn out punters I care about, whether they be forces for good, evil or most often somewhere in between. Every episode is a roller coaster of color, sights and sounds. **Poker Face** (Prime, 2024) Some of the shine is coming off this show for me, but the wife likes it so we press on. The protagonist keeps knowing future murdered people. And it’s all a CRAZY COINCIDENCE in order to use her super power. Like Jessica Fletcher, always stumbling on murders at a certain point strains credulity. But not last night. The episode we saw last night stared Joseph Gordon-Levitt and from beginning to end was a masterclass in story telling. Wonderful episode and rekindled my flagging interest in the show. Seriously, if you have seen some of this and the show doesn’t do it for you, I get it, but try episode 9 of Poker Face, Escape from Shit Mountain. ---

Once you buy into the conceit _(and most cosy murder mysteries have some conceit, e.g. how can there be so many murders in a town with a population of 10,000?)_ just enjoy the ride. ---

It shows a lack of imagination, is what I am saying. The conceit is she can tell if anyone is lying. There are so many uses for that other than winning Poker games and as a Lie Detector for murder suspects. There is so much to explore, I mean just psychologically. Who would she hang out with, who would hang out with her, why? How would this change your behavior? She just seems like a jaded world weary misanthrope, which is fair, but it’s a super power and I have a had time believing there would be no good from it other than finding a few murders of her close friends. ---

Decided to rewatch **Justified**. Still great. The wife and I started watching **Cardinal** , a police procedural set in Canada. Not bad so far. ---

I watched the first ~8 episodes of Justified years ago and none of them seemed any better than an average rerun of “Simon & Simon”. I imagine the recurring storylines start at some point, but I’d rather watch something that gets up to speed faster than that. ---

Yeah, they started out with a one story per episode format, but morphed into a continuing story with the decision to keep Walton Goggins on in a continuing role after the first season. ---

I just watched one of the worst epis of a great show- The Rookie. Okay, what Tim is doing is unethical and illegal, and sure he gave a promise- but he also swore an oath, or actually two oaths. And Tim’s and Lucy’s relationship is creepy. She is super needy, and he is a father figure. Not to mention it is unethical- yeah, I know he is supposedly in Metro, but I have seen them patrolling together. The whole “adopt a child” thing with John and Bailey was stupid. And Johns lawsuit with that crooked lawyer? Impossible. That is exactly what Conditional Immunity (CI is often misunderstood, I admit) is for, and what it prevents. The suit would have been dismissed out of hand. The “John is stationed in a out of the way place not in the city of Los Angeles” was worse maybe. ---
