**Corner Gas** (Roku stick, 2004, 6 se.) A humous but chill sitcom about a gas station in the middle of nowhere Saskatchewan. The jokes are clever and the writing is dense. Apparently the show drops off in quality around season 3, but I am still on season 1 and it’s fantastic. A friend recommended it so I put in on for background while my wife and I were busy with projects in the living room. 5 minutes later we both stopped what we were doing just to watch and laugh then 10 minutes later the kids came in and sat down to join us. Heartily recommended. _Corner Gas_ rests somewhere between the quirky store location hijinks of _Kim’s Convenience_ and odd small town atmosphere of _Northern Exposure_ without relying on _Letterkenny_-like comedic bits that get stale. ---

We liked _Kim’s Convenience_ quite a bit. I especially liked the dynamic between Janet and the dad. Maybe _Corner Gas_ would be one to put on the list. Speaking of workplace sitcoms, we tried _Tires_ a little while back, but I’m going to admit it was just a smidge low-brow for me. And, you know, that’s really saying something, considering my inner twelve-year-old is still very much alive and well and enthusiastic. So the show is languishing with episodes yet to watch, but I don’t know. ---

I just watched the series THE NIGHT MANAGER–it was very good, I thought, but I was puzzled by one part of the ending. Hugh Laurie switched from smug and confident (while in handcuffs) to freaking out. Was this because (as I suspect) he saw that the people in charge of him while in custody were going to be the nasty arms dealers whom he had just screwed out of $300 million? ---

After the movie there is a four season animated series (that hits the reset button on some of the developments from the movie). ---

Just watched the first two episodes of High Potential on Hulu with Kaitlin Olson. Really enjoyed it. Nothing groundbreaking, it’s more of a comfort show. I rank it with such shows as Monk and Psych. I really like the characters and the overarching mystery is interesting enough to keep me watching. ---

So far of the new shows this season I have started watching and rejected two of them, _Murder in a Small Town_, _High Potential_, and _Doctor Odyssey_. The reasons for all of them are similar: mostly I found the characters and/or their relationships annoying, and the plots too unbelievable. I have enough other shows that I watch that I can’t see myself investing any time in seeing if these are going to improve. ---

My sister and I just watched the first three episodes of _High Potential_ and liked it enough to record it as a series. I agree with your description. I like the actors, and the stories were interesting enough. The pilot was annoying because it so obviously was _not_ L.A. There was one rooftop scene where there was a inserted fake background of DTLA that was completely unconvincing. The next two episodes actually made in L.A. had the right locations, and the right references (althought Phillipe’s is not pronounced Fill-EEP; it’s pronounced Fill-I-pees). Randy’s was a good touch thought kinda out of the way for going downtown. And, man, was that apple fritter hammered. There were a ton of _Doctor Odyssey_ commercials in our OnDemand, and it looks so awful. Just really cheesy and fake. I can go with cheesy on occasion, but it has to have actually some really cheese in it – not just slick phony congealed fat. Oh, and why do they have her dressing like a hooker??? Micro mini, high plastic boots, and fake fur jacket. Classic cliche hooker wardrobe. Nobody but hookers dress like that. Chloe , the baby (one of at least two I’m guessing), is a good actress. ---

We started **Disclaimer** on Apple+. Stars Cate Blanchett and nearly unrecognizable Kevin Kline in a story about. . .something. Not sure what, as E1 is a mess of flashbacks and hints about. . .something. It’s going to have to get a lot clearer in E2 or it gets the boot. ---

I have seen that advertised a few times and it caught my eye because one of the actors in it is a political satirist I watch on YouTube, and his videos are amusing so I was hoping it would be good but I’ve not heard great things unfortunately. ---

Netflix dropped the new season of _ **The Great British Baking Show** _. It’s the first time I’ve seen an American on the show and it doesn’t look like he made it past the first 20 minutes. ---

I have recently started watching the 1966 _Batman_ series in order. This is the first time I’ve ever watched it that hasn’t been syndicated TV reruns with no guarantee that all the episodes will be in order. Twelve episodes in and I’ve noticed variation in the narration at the end of cliffhangers. Originally it was just “same time, same channel”, then went to “same bat time, same bat channel”, and the latest was mixed–“same time, same bat channel”. ---

I binged _Batman_ about ten years ago when it finally came out on disc. It suffers from the fact that the first episode with Riddler and the Batusi is the absolute best of the lot. The funniest thing about that episode (now) is that the girl who drugs Batman at the dance club is named “Molly”.
