Just finished [El Cid](https://www.amazon.com/Legend-El-Cid-Season/dp/B08NSDSHCJ) on Amazon. It was pretty decent, very much trying to “Game of Thrones”-ify the story (and best with subtitles not dubbed IMO) ---

Daughter and I were looking for next series to watch. Tried an episode of Nurse Ratched , not sure if we will carry on. Watched 2 episodes of Derry Girls based on your recomendations, it was funny. I am English but my daughter has never lived there and is American to all intents and purposes , so I had to have a quick history lesson on why there were soldiers on the street, whatsbup with the Catholics / protestants and why are there people in orange wearing bowler hats . ---

They tend to cherry pick the books, which actually makes it more interesting. I’ve read all of them and I like how they’ve been inserted into the story lines. Apparently (from what I read) nobody told Welliver that they wanted him to continue in the new series and he thought they were replacing him with someone younger. ---

I have been watching “[Evil](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Evil_(TV_series))”. It is surprisingly good and it can get quite tense (in a good way). I thought there were a million ways to do this badly but the writers somehow walk a fine line here and do it well. The first season is on Netflix. The second season just started a few weeks ago and is now on Paramount+ only. They have already confirmed a third season. ---

I binge-watched _Secrets of Sulphur Springs_ on Disney+ all in one sitting, if I recall correctly. Fantastic family-friendly mystery. I’ve watched all of _WandaVision_ and _The Falcon and the Winter Soldier_, both of which I’ve enjoyed, and I’m up-to-date on _Loki_, which is also a lot of fun. ---

Started watching _Brooklyn 99_ on hulu, and loving it. Better ensemble comedy than the best seasons of _Cheers_ or _The Office_. ---

Not sure if it’s worth it, I read the comics, and stuck past Negan into the ones after that, but most of the cast have gone, Daryl grunts, Carol neutered, episodes by the numbers and there are extra long seasons (so more spacefilling). Maybe watch episode 1 (start), 7+8 (mid season and conclusion), 15 (end) or the equivalent if they are 22-24 episodes. It is usually the only ones where something actually happens apart from: Cast you can’t remember have a talk. One does something really stupid. They forget all lessons they’ve learned during the zombie apocalypse. Look at all the effort we put into this Zombie makeup, that is why it takes about 2 minutes of it walking up, and a good minute wrestling with it to show its face. Cast member dies or doesn’t die. You can’t remember. ---

We’ve started watching _Le Bureau_ on Amazon Prime. It’s a French series about spies that gets very good reviews. Too early to tell if it’s something we’ll stick with, as the French are big on dialog and short on action. ---

I’m half way through Season 1 of [Animal Kingdome (2016)](https://www.imdb.com/title/tt5574490/) on Prime, and I don’t know that I have it in me to get through it, let alone the next 4 seasons. Ellen Barkin is great, but that creepy incestual vibe she’s got going with all her sons is just annoying the fuck out of me. And I do love me some flawed character dramas, but I’m not feeling particularly invested in the survival of any of these dumbass kids of hers. Maybe the grandson. But so far it’s entirely too predictable of a plot line. ---

Started watching: [The Beast Must Die](https://www.amc.com/shows/the-beast-must-die--60716) (I’m watching on AMC but I think you can purchase eps on Prime). So far it is awesome. Stopped watching: Handmaid’s Tale. I still love Elisabeth Moss but I’m over June and her scowl and frankly the series has turned into some redundant, action adventure thing that just doesn’t appeal to me any longer. ---

Watching the most recent season of Homicide Hunter on Hulu. I’m not generally into true crime but I really enjoy hearing this grizzled old detective talk about the murders he solved. This guy had a crazy high solved murder rate and he’s dead honest about how traumatic his job was. I first heard Lt. Joe Kenda on a Nerdist podcast knowing nothing about the show, and his character just drew me in so much I had to watch the series. I joke that he is like a surrogate father, dispensing paternalistic advice about how to solve murders and not be murdered. I call him Murder Dad. “Watchya watchin’?” “Just Murder Dad.” For the sensitive viewer like myself, it’s usually intriguing, occasionally disturbing. Tonight’s episode was disturbing. ---

The problem with that is there will not be a resolution. They have already announced a series of Rick movies, so they are going to keep milking this cow. The final season will end in a cliffhanger to be resolved in the movies. I might watch again on streaming before the movie comes out, but this show has just insulted its viewers for far too long. I don’t mind cashing in when a series is hot, but they are just squeezing this thing.
