> What two units, each cooling half the house?

Not sure of the specific whys, **Flytrap**. This is just something we were told by a very good HVAC guy when we replaced our 25 year old system a couple of years ago, and then Richard Trethewey of _This Old House_ covered this during a segment last season. I also would have thought bigger is more efficient, but apparently it really screws with the cooling coils.

I’m not well up on Yew Ess law, can pointy stick weildin’ spiders be called as witnesses? They only really know semaphore. I can always stand behind them talking in a little squeaky voice, but I’ll need a bit of notice to work on my Sri Lankan accent.

I think, unless they can speak for themselves, the spiders would be evidence. IANAL, YMMV, etc.

I dunno,\*\* FCM,\*\* you have more faith in wireless providers than I do. There are still simple phones out there…for now.

Lots to do today, accountant, bank, lawyer, chores.

We’re doing the go kart thing on Friday, and it looks like it’s turned into a big group thing. After the go kart thing, we’re going out to dinner at a Mexican restaurant. I’m sure it’ll be fun.

I woke up at 4:30 this morning and then drifted back off to sleep. At 6:15 I woke up from a dream in which I hadn’t taken the garbage out on time and missed it being emptied. Today is garbage day. So, I promptly hopped up and took the garbage out. So, now both our garbage and yard waste bin are out on the curb ready to be emptied.

I must have missed when you posted about one of the hell hounds having to be put to sleep, **sari.** I’m sure the other pup misses him/her immensely. They sense loss too.

Time for a second cup of wake the hell up, and then off to shower and get ready to see the accountant.

I had lunch at a fast food Chinese joint in the food court of a mall yesterday.
A group of three was in front of me; a man and woman in their 40s and a woman 60 or 70. The couple took their food and tromped off to a table. The older woman was trying to balance a cane with a handle and four feet with a box of food, two bottles of water and her purse. I asked, “May I help you with that?” I carried her food over to the table where the couple were stuffing their pie holes. The bastard never look up from his trough.
The Asian guy at the register muttered something about not respecting elders in the family, and took my tea off the bill.

Last night was rather interesting, a certain band, usually know by a single word English affirmative are a bunch of Old Geezers. Cranky, bickering Old Geezers. They were not a problem for us but it seems that they don’t like each other anymore or I was in a Monty Python skit.

I have to go to irk and have pub night with a blonde who is a bit too young for me or the redhead who is her roommate, or both.

As my spousal unit explained to me once, an oversized unit can’t operate efficiently trying to air condition a small space. From [here](http://people.consolidated.net/window/AC/bigger.htm):

> [@](#):
>
> An oversize unit will cool your home to the desired temperature more quickly which sounds good until you discover that the unit shuts off before it has adequately dehumidified the air. Your home will be cool, but the air may feel clammy. The excess humidity also increases the risk of mold.

HVAC systems have to be matched to the volume of space they’re heating or cooling. Same way you wouldn’t put a Harley engine in a Vespa - they’re not designed to go together. That’s why engineers make the big bucks. 😃

Erranding has been accomplished, and we picked up 2 new units for our cable. We still need to take the digital box back - shoulda done that before we went out this morning, but we didn’t think about it. So that goes on next errand run. Meanwhile, I think I’ll make me a sammich, since it’s been 5 hours since breakfast.

Oh my bad

There are the hounds from hell, three of them, which belong to the house guests from hell aka his/her fucking highness.
Then there is hellpup, so named before the hfh came here. Hellpup is a dog I used to pet sit for that I will still go over every now and then and let out. She is a Newfie, 120 pounds of uncontrolled energy. Just putting a leash on her could take 5 minutes as she bounced up and down and all around. Getting her out the door could take even longer, many a time as soon as I opened the door she would take off spinning me around and half dragging me down the steps. No amount of correcting, repetition, scolding worked. Walking her was pure hell and this was _after_ she went to obedience school. I won’t walk her at all anymore, she simply will not listen, she is the most hardheaded dog I have ever known. I would spend time with her, telling her to sit and stay while I opened the door, she’d bolt for the door and I’d close it, make her sit and stay while I opened the door and she’d bolt for it and we’d do this over and over and over and she never caught on. Try to pet her and she rolls all around kicking me, jumping up, laying down, spinning around. She could never _just sit still_ and when the other dog would come over she would kick it into high gear trying to keep my attention while pushing the other dog away. My client had dents in their walls where she’d bolt down the stairs and slide into the wall. Many a time she almost knocked me down the stairs because she’d run up ahead of me and then turn around at the top and try to jump on me. When she wasn’t kept crated she’d damn near knock me down as soon as I came in the door. I’ve worked with dogs for years and while I’m no trainer I can usually make dogs behave - not this one. I tried every trick I know and nothing worked with her. I felt bad for her because what she really needed was a strong teenaged boy/young man who could take her for a long run everyday, not a middle aged woman whom she could drag all over the place.
However, their other dog was a ‘problem’ dog and her owners were reluctant to have somebody new come in. That is the dog who was just put to sleep. She was 12 years old, old for a Newfie and it was her time. She was losing control of her bladder (hence the nickname river pup - not to be confused with piddle pup, the cocker spaniel who had a bladder control problem) and then her hind legs gave out. Now hellpup seems lost without her and has become very clingy and quiet. I feel sorry for her, I’m sure she hates being alone.

I know my nicknames don’t sound nice but believe me they are all given in affection. Almost every dog I ever watched had a special name, I loved them all -
even if there were days I wanted to choke the shit out of them.

One of my embarrassing days was when I forgot my client was upstairs and I let loose with a few choice words on their dogs - six huskies, 6 howling huskies, 6 howling hungry huskies who wanted to eat, 6 howling hungry huskies 5 of whom were spinning in their crates causing them to rock back and forth banging into each other and almost knocking the top tier over, while 1 of them was standing there looking stupid and refusing to go into his crate so I could feed them.
I apologized to my client for cussing at his dogs and he said, "ain’t nuthing I’ve never called them before, they’re used to it’.
I never could figure out if that particular dog was stupid or just pretending to be. He knew the routine and sometimes he’d just stand there looking stupid. His owner told me she used to wonder about him too.

Anyway, I could write a book on pet sitting… never a dull moment in that line of work.

Alas for me, last Friday, it wasn’t a dream. At our old house, it was a minor miracle if the trash was picked up before 3 PM, so it was never a problem to put the bins out in the morning. Here, they roll through at about 6 AM.

This office is weird. Yesterday, I saw exactly one other person, but could hear a handful of others. If they ever start asking for people to voluntarily give up their space and go to full-time telecommuting, I’ll be first in line for that. A two-hour commute each direction does not exactly do wonders for the “life-work balance.”

Hey **Jim** , nice to see you back. I was truly beginning to worry.

Not much new here - in my second week of vacation with my kids hanging at my parents’ place. Have done much boating, fishing, crabbing & exploring.

[Here is an interesting POV camera video I shot with my kids last week on catching crabs with a trotline.](http://youtu.be/ppAyzQp8QsY)

Otherwise just pretty much in lurk mode. Glad to read everyone seems to be well.

I hate my mortgage company with a white hot hate of hatred!!! Always have. If we were employed, I’d look into doing a re-fi just so we could get a different mortgage company.

When I checked my bank account today, I saw that the withdrawal for our mortgage was $300 more than usual - needless to say, that scared the crap out of me! I tried to log into my account, but their site is frequently a bitch, locking me out for no reason. This has happened periodically over the last 3 years. Plus sometimes when I am able to log in, none of the links on my account page will work, so I can’t do anything. HATE!!!

Since the damned site was fighting me, I found a number and called customer service. After fighting my way thru the phone tree, I was connected with a nice lady who had an accent. I figured out the I don’t have a problem with accents as much as accents speaking unfamiliar technical terms. I had to ask this woman to repeat things several times, especially when she supposedly reset my login.

Her reset didn’t work, nor did my two subsequent requests to reset my account, so I finally found an email address for website issues and sent one off to them. We shall see how long it takes for them to get back to me. Meanwhile, the woman in customer service told me what the extra charge was for and explained that they’d sent a message to my account inbox, which I couldn’t access because their website sucks!!! When I can finally get back into my account, I’m changing from paper-free to send-me-the-damned-statements!!! I can’t take 17 more years of this crap!!!

End of rant. I’m going to go cut up some melon.
**{{{tugig}}}!!!** You don’t visit us nearly enough!

**Mom** , honestly I lurk by often enough, but I get tired of talking about myself and as much as I care about everyone else here (and I do!) I find it hard to keep track of everyone and their goings on, and I despise coming across as shallow, uninterested or uncaring.

So I read and try to keep up with what is going on with everyone, and if I get to the point that I feel comfortable with my ability to participate then I’ll likely get back up to speed. Probably after this vacation when routine returns.

**swampy** , before you go doing all of that hand entry, see if the sim card from OYKW’s old phone is salvageable. If it is, whoever it that sends you a phone bill should be able to import the info into the new phone / sim card. It still won’t hurt having a back-up list though.

Howdy from da cave! My foray into the southeast forty took way longer than I thought. When I got through there I called [del]minion[/del] assistant and told her I was headed homeward. I’s tahrd. Chikin nachos for dindin. Takes all of twenty minutes to make plus choppin’ time for chikin, onions and peppers which I did yestiddy. Even grated the cheese. Go Me! I should have my own show on Food Network. 😃

Howdy **gigity**! Come in and yak it up all ya want. That’s what everybody else does.

**MOOOOOOM** sounds like a box of pointy stick weildin’ Sri Lankan ninja paratrooper spiders is in order. So glad I don’t have a mortgage anymore.

**Red** good idea! The thought had crossed my mind to do that. OYKW has the phone so I’ll get him to take out the SIM card. He’s the one who \<snerk\> peed \<snerk\> on it so I say he should be the one to do that. 😃
