I never said porn was gross. I like porn a lot, and watch it with my husband somewhat regularly. Its the hawking (sp?) a lugie (sp?) during oral sex that bothers me, and that has become pretty ubiquitous lately.
Also, I don’t have a problem with spit as lube, it’s obviously the best thing out there, but the way they do it in porn manages to make it completely un-sexy.

Not me. While surely some saliva can be called upon in a spur-of-the-moment situation where the closest source of AstroGlide is at the drugstore all the way down the block, the style of porn in which a huge deal is made out of delivering a lot of spit onto the partner by either projectile or drooling technique is a turnoff for me. Porn to me should be about a fantasy world where everyone’s wet and hot enough when the time comes.

Funny, I found myself asking this very question recently, and the answer (in my bedroom, anyway) is OH HELLZ NO. When the hell did this become a porn standard?

Sorry, but I drink at least (no exaggeration) a gallon of water a day, but being post-menopause, even when I’m _very_ aroused, there is no guarantee that lube won’t be needed!
Spitting will certainly get the job done if you don’t have anything else handy, but being obnoxious and overt about it will turn me right the hell off. And I don’t want to watch other people spit, either, in porn _or_ in other situations.

I think its not so much racism as a form of domination. I forgot where I first read this, but in the order of perceived masculinity, blacks are at the top, whites in the middle, and Asians last. Thus, in porn, we see the following heterosexual couplings:
Black man -\> black, white or Asian woman
White man -\> white or Asian woman
Asian man -\> Asian woman only
You seldom see a white man with a black woman in porn, and never see an Asian man with a black or white woman.
Then again, it could be racist in what kinds of black men are in porn: mainly, those with HUGE penises, reinforcing the stereotype. White men in porn range from average to large, while Asian men … almost uniformly, they’re all packing five inches when they go to town on a yelping Japanese schoolgirl.

I think there’s a big difference in the, uh, emotional tenor between comingling saliva when you kiss someone, and when you spit into someone’s open mouth or face. The latter is, to my perception, intended to be degrading and it really bothers me when I see it (and it’s distressingly common, as is…)

That’s the thing, though – spitting and gagging/choking are really common, nowadays, and you _don’t_ have to be trawling through niche porn to find it, let alone the darkest recesses.
I really don’t have a problem with rough porn when it’s labeled as such and you have to make an effort (however small) to find it – it’s the ubiquity of it in the mainstream sites that disturbs me, especially when it’s just kind of sprung on me (so to speak) in the middle of an otherwise-vanilla scene. It freaks me the fuck out.

I hate it when they do that to the girl’s clit. It just looks terribly uncomfortable and I hope to god that men don’t try that first thing when they go down on a woman until they know that she actually likes it.
I agree about the spitting thing - it’s pretty gross. I’m pretty sure they do it for lube, but is hocking a giant loogie onto each other’s privates necessary?
