The thing I found strange was when I drove through Fort Knox in 1997 and couldn’t even find a postcard that related to the depository. I ended up mailing one with a picture of a tank on it. For all the romance and intrigue about the bullion depository in fiction, as far as I could tell it was just a mildly-interesting-looking government warehouse set back ~1000 feet from a really high chain-link fence.
