Sesame Street Unpaved rules!

I remember that ‘Milk’ sketch, mr. genie and I sing it to our kid when we get out the milk. Anybody have that on mp3? I also want that song that goes, ‘That’s about the size, where you put your eyes, that’s about the size of it.’ And does anyone remember ‘Capital I?’
I love SSU! The other night I saw what must have been one of the first episodes–Big Bird had this tiny pinhead and the wrong voice. It was great. I learned a new song, ‘Everyone likes ice cream.’ SS now is so inferior, with Elmo everywhere.

I need that book!

My lord, how I hope these are somehow available on video. I’d love for my kids to see this rather than that idiotic red creature.

I eagerly await the day he becomes a fuzzy red smear under someone’s steamroller.

Oooohhh, I want Noggin! There was a special on VH-1 a while ago where they showed a lot of the musical guests that had been on Sesame Street throughout the years. It was a great show.

Does anyone 'member the bit from the 70s, it may have been claymation or something similar, and it had a queen or princess with some flowers, and the narrator would say, “One,two, three…four, five, six” and the flowers would appear as he counted?

I had a book of Sesame Street stories and poems when I was a kid, and in one of the stories,Ernie is a farmer, at one point he says “That’s groovy!” Of course, this was published in the 70s. I wish I still had the book…

*Rubbing it here, scrubbing it there,
Polishing the “I” so high in theeeeee air.

And when we’re done with the day’s only chore,
we go into the “I” and we shut the door.

Capital “I”
Capital “I”*

It haunts me to this day.

yep yep yep yep

I need this channel. Excuse me while I go to the cable company and start bashing heads until I get it!

Capital I! I remember that one! Ooh, that big glowing “I” was cool!

And I’d kill to see some of the Electric Company. I don’t remember it well – hardly at all, except that I know I watched it – but I think I’d remember more if I got to see it.

I NEED THIS CHANNEL.

You imagine nothing. His hair looked like he just crawled out of bed after an all night drunk.

Hey, does anybody remember the very first season of SS? I do! Get this: During the first season ('68 or 69 I believe:confused: ) Oscar the Grouch was ORANGE:eek:
I vividly remember the first episodes of the SECOND season, as Oscar was then green. My brother and I went nuts screwing around with the television controls trying to get him to look orange again. We even got our dad into it. He thought the t.v. set had gone to shit.:stuck_out_tongue:
I’ve never gotten an explanation about why they changed Oscars color. Anyone know why/

I remember the first year, but cannot comment on Oscar, as our TV was black and white. I do recall my daddy coming home from work and telling him in great detail about Big Bird.

Whatever happened to David? How come he and Maria didn’t get married? Please tell me there’s another explanation for this than the mixed-race thing, OK?

Didn’t Maria and Luis get married? I think they did. I dunno.

One of my favourites was the Seven Alligator Sons. And “a loaf a’ bread, a stick a’ butter, and a quart a’ milk”

I still sing the Sesame Street songs that I learned as a child, and as a matter of fact am now going to put on my son’s (second, after pukey Backstreet Boys) cd, “Sesame Splish Splash Bathtime Fun”, featuring such classics as “Splish Splash”, “Rubber Duckie”, “Do De Rubber Duck”, and “The Bathtub of Seville”.

Bad news [b[LifeOnWry**. The actor who played david, Northern Calloway died:( From some form of kidney problems or cancer I believe. He wasn’t very old either.

Yes, they did. And she had their baby! I’ve seen some of that in the Noggin reruns: she goes to the OB and has an ultrasound, and Luis takes 80 million Polaroids.

And their child, Gabriella, is on the show. She is probably in her early teens.

A&E aired a Biography segment of Sesame Street not long ago, and in some segments Oscar was indeed orange; I don’t recall if they explained the change or not.

When my sister was a kid, my parents bought her an album of Sesame Street songs - “Rubber Ducky,” “It’s not Easy Being Green,” “I Love Trash,” and the original Sesame Street theme song. I’ll always remember that one day, my father had all the kids from the neighborhood come in, and he recorded us all singing along with “Rubber Ducky.” I still know all the words to most of the songs on that album.

This is in Sesame Street Unpaved as well. Can’t remember the explanation, though.

Another interesting tidbit: Oscar was inspired by a waiter at a diner called Oscar’s who was incredibly rude to some of the Sesame Street writers.

Yes. Yes. God, yes.

I was not aware than Northern Calloway had died. I do remember when Will Lee, the actor who played Mr. Hooper. Instead of finding a different actor to fill in, the writers used this as a way to explain death to kids in a tasteful and sensitive way.

I credit Sesame Street for making me the sensitive, intelligent adult I am today

Robin

Sweet! I knew I wasn’t the only one that remembered that one. IIRC, this has a spiffy animated short that goes with it?

From the IMDb:

Heh - neither Mr. Pol nor I can say “phenomenon” without at least THINKING (and usually saying) “Doo doo, doo-do-do”

I have a Muppet Show CD (didn’t see it on Amazon - sorry!) that has that song on it…

I REALLY want to see the aliens & the telephone sketch again! BRRRR-Ring! BRRR-Ring!
