Yeah as a former army member, I cannot say this line of thinking puts him in high regards to me. And I may be wrong, as I am more often then my ego allows me to believe, but his use of “This soldier emailed me” without attributing anything kind of makes me wonder. As with the story I quoted here, if this was true he could of omitted the soldiers name, and said the villages name and what happened and allowed a journalist to check the validity of his statement. I am sure there are atrocities being committed from both sides in this war. And nothing excuses any of them. But some of his stories from that linked page as well as other Hersh stories I have googled sounds like he believes the black helicopters will be overhead any minute. ---

Do you believe that there are any members of the Iraqi insurgency who are neither brutal thugs nor fanatics? Considering that it’s a loosely-organized bunch of people striking out, it seems very plausible to me that there are some cells who confine their atacks to attacks on foreign military. Were one of them to join the boards, would you call for their banning? I’m not even sure whether I’d call for the banning of a person inclined to murder civilians. On the one hand, that’s an appalling kind of person to be, utterly abhorrent. On the other hand, I’m not sure whether banning them would serve a good purpose, or a purpose better than that which would be served by engaging them in conversation. Daniel ---

Ah! Thanks. US Army slang for Infantry: Bullet Stoppers. Ground Pounders is used sometimes for the Infantry and sometimes for the whole Army. ---
