Yeah, I couldn’t care less whether we explore any other details about the man who lost his family. The only important issue is whether this guy is an asshole or not. I vote with the others that he is. Douchey McDoucherson who is still obviously reading this but is too chickenshit to stand up to the much-deserved criticism. What a waste of board resources and a pansy to boot. ---

I don’t agree that convicts have no right to privacy, but it’s certainly got its limits. The real issue here, though, is that **acts performed in public are never private**. While the SO probably didn’t boink his girlfriend in front of the neighbors, his discovery and trial are public matters. ---

I agree this is all just too much to believe. I was willing to give Frosty Camel the benefit of the doubt, but now this whole thing about the sex offender list and the trolling. Not worth giving a 2nd thought to, other than for the entertainment value. ---

Ok, a couple of things. Doubters can doubt. I really don’t care. Says more about you than it does about me. The news reports can be found using google. I just did it. Of course I have the benefit of knowing the details that you don’t. But they all have my name and some have the road I live on. Ironically I find that far to personal to post on a public message board so sorry no link. And last, if someone has nothing better to do than to track the stories down I would request that you don’t post a link here for the reasons in my previous paragraph. It costs us nothing to accept his story. It’s not beyond reason that this has happened. If we’re being trolled, it’s not a stellar effort on his part. It seems more likely that he really is grieving and seeking an anonymous support group. On the other hand, **SevenCl** just wants to piss in everyone’s cheerios. In fact, many of them went into denial and just figured the mods were being over cautious. So, it really does cost something to believe such tragic stories and provide sympathy. I couldn’t even imagine how pissed off I would be if a person I knew in real life, even if he or she wasn’t a friend, told me that their family had just been killed by a drunk driver and was acting all sad about it, only to find out that they were just trolling me and laughing at me the whole time. But I’m a callous asshole, so there’s that as well. ---

I can only speak for myself, but there were also some who didn’t really buy into Umkay as it has been on Teh Internets so often. And those casual readers who never read the story anyway. I’m not dismissing what you say- I’m sure there is a lot of truth in it- but I think a lot is being put out about umkay when folks would have got caught up anyway. ---

That’s a shame, because there are some pretty articulate posts in this thread detailing why your behavior in that thread was callous and worthy of scorn. We all have issues, Og knows I’ve dragged my own issues into threads where they didn’t belong before, but to drag them into a thread that is clearly an expression of grief is really unacceptable. You can either take that as a personal insult and ignore these reactions (the easy way out) or consider that maybe you really did cross a line and you owe **Frosty Camel** an apology. I think at issue with the emotional investment aspect is the idea that emotional investment counts for nothing if it turns out to be invested in a lie. Personally I think people are better off caring about others and taking the risk of being hoodwinked than they are about never opening up their hearts at all. I’m never going to regret caring about someone, no matter how things turn out in the end. In the very least, it’s good practice. ---

1. Compiling information from public records, like sex offender registries and court records is not invading privacy. 2. There is nothing that Frosty Camel did that wouldn’t have been done in a news feature profile of a drunk-driving accident. 3. As to Sevencl’s personal issues, you don’t have the moral or legal right to hide your past name from people you are engaging in professional or business transactions with, unless you’re in the witness protection program or other government-sanctioned identity protection scheme. ---

In a way, I hope he’s trolling with that story, only because I can’t imagine the pain he would be feeling if it is the truth. But the sad fact is that his story is one that happens all too often, and many families have been devastated by similar events. If my sympathy is misplaced with him, it’s certainly not misplaced for the survivors of the tragic circumstances he’s described. For now, I give Frosty the benefit of the doubt, and if I’m wrong, I won’t lose any sleep over it. ---

See, I like to look at it in a more optimistic light: I don’t look at it as doubting your story as being true but rather as hoping your story _isn’t_ true. Having the human tragedy happen that is the loss of life and the waste-of-life in your story is absolutely heartbreaking in a way that I can’t even pretend to imagine. Nor would I wish anyone else to have to deal with it’s reality. The details in your story are hard to swallow; they are almost _too_ tragic, in a convenient, story-book telling kinda way. And they only reason I say this is because it’s been all your narrative that has painted this picture; for such an tragic, specific story to be believed, can’t you even provide _one single_ bit of real-life evidence for the happenings? Even an indirect, follow-it-up-yourself bit? I hope that you CAN’T provide anything. I hope that you ARE a troll. I hope that all this misery and tragedy has been cooked up in your head for whatever ulterior motive you had. Because whatever it is, it is lightyears less hurtful and devastating that the pain and suffering felt from the consequences of what you’ve told us here.
