Can you tell I’m a Stones fan? Eliminated choices whited out. Shouldn’t this be in Cafe Society, btw?

Actually it would be easier if you just eliminated them entirely. It makes it a lot easier when I cut and paste results.

Dunno. I figured it was more like a poll than a discussion. I guess a mod can move it if they want to.

Were all these threads supposed to be in Cafe Society? Anyway, I’m just going to _mostly_ vote by subjective preference ( sometimes very slight ) rather than try to objectively figure out which is “greater.” With four threads I’d be here all night :). So:

1.)Accidents Will Happen - Elvis Costello

2.)After the Goldrush - Neil Young

3.)Ain’t No Sunshine - Bill Withers

4.)Alison - Elvis Costello

5.)All the Young Dudes - Mott the Hoople

6.)American Girl - Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers

7.)American Woman - The Guess Who

8.)Anarchy In The UK - Sex Pistols

9.)Annie’s Song - John Denver

10.)Another Brick in the Wall, Part 2 - Pink Floyd

11.)Aqualung - Jethro Tull

12.)At Seventeen - Janis Ian

13.)Baba O’Riley - The Who

14.)Back Stabbers - O’Jays

15.)Bad, Bad Leroy Brown - Jim Croce

16.)Bad Girls - Donna Summer

17.)Baker Street - Gerry Rafferty

18.)Band Of Gold - Freda Payne

19.)Barracuda - Heart

20.)Batuka - Santana

21.)Beast of Burden - Rolling Stones

22.)Bennie And The Jets - Elton John

23.)Best Of My Love - The Emotions

24.)Big Yellow Taxi - Joni Mitchell

25.)Birdland - Weather Report

26.)Blinded By the Light - Bruce Springsteen

27.)Black Dog - Led Zeppelin

28.)Black Magic Woman - Santana

29.)Blitzkrieg Bop – The Ramones

30.)Bohemian Rhapsody - Queen

31.)Born to Run - Bruce Springsteen

32.)The Boys Are Back In Town - Thin Lizzy
Angie and Annie’s song is a particularly tough choice - I really dislike both. But since they play the Stones version more annoyingly often, I’ll give Denver the nod.

(I think “Both Sides Now” is both (a) very pretty, and (b) gonna get its ass whupped by it’s unfortunate pairing with one of Springsteen’s greatest, so my vote for it is more of a pity vote.)

Truth be told, I prefer “Accidents Will Happen” to “ABC”, but since there was another Costello song, I gave “ABC” the nod.

Also, though I voted for it, “The Ballad of John & Yoko” was '69, so shouldn’t be included in a list of '70s songs.

Bohemian Rhapsody - Queen
Both Sides, Now - Joni Mitchell
The Boys Are Back In Town - Thin Lizzy

I skipped the ones where either I didn’t know the songs or else preferred neither of the choices. But I’m glad you have good coverage of the '60s and '70s, or I’d be so lost.

> Can someone please explain to me how any right-minded person could possible think Manfred Mann’s version of ‘Blinded By the Light’ is better than Springsteen’s?

Because “revved up like a deuce” sounds better than “cut loose like a douche.” 😃
