In theory they do have chaperones and attendants with them at all times but I’ve also read stories of the underaged teenage athletes getting drunk and going into each others rooms to sleep with one another, the underaged athletes are housed at their own special buildings with guards and chaperones but nobody is really paying attention at 2am since by then pretty much everyone else is asleep.

[This 2012 article](http://www.espn.com/olympics/summer/2012/story/_/id/8133052/athletes-spill-details-dirty-secrets-olympic-village-espn-magazine) from ESPN Magazine has some stories from Olympic athletes about the wild times during the games (as well as on the flight home).

You have a village filled with men and women in their teens and early twenties all in great physical shape and most in a foreign country. Yeah I think there will be a lot of condom use.

> Some might go home after competing, but remember, the athletes are also there for the closing ceremonies.

Those with money to burn, i.e. from corporate support, can go home after opening ceremonies, even before their events, and then after before closing ceremonies.

As an example, Kristi Yamaguchi did just that – she opted to practice at her home rink before qualifying and competing, and then after her bronze, returning (or maybe not) before closing ceremonies. People who aren’t aware of this sort of thing found this rather cold of her, shouldn’t she be palling around with the US team and supporting them? Maybe. Then again, maybe not.

Now, I recognize that people can be poorly informed, and then become informed, but, seems to me, that sometimes people just want to bitch about other people’s behavior.

There was a bit of a complaint about the Women’s volleyball teams, they had visible norplant implants, or perhaps, birth control dispensing patches. In addition to the standard moral outrage (ZOMG, grown women having sex, I though they were athletes only,) the visible signs constituted advertisement for a product/company. This is serious business™ with regard to women’s volleyball – the sport requires their outfits to be tiny in order to leave minimal room for advertisement. Hence their propensity to write “AVON” on themselves to get around that.

Not everyone who goes to the Olympics is a super competitor. Many nations send their best, and hope they get lucky vs a competitor from a powerhouse nation. But some are just poor at their sport, and just know someone in the government. The same for some additional people traveling with the athlete. Support people who really know nothing of the sport, and are just there because they know somebody in the government.

Rather hard to understand, but in any case Kristi Yamaguchi won gold, not bronze.

Did she. That was dumb of me, I should have checked Google before typing. I thought the very young Long Island native, Sarah something, won the Gold instead …

Oh wait, now I know what I got wrong. As the local radio station parody song went, to the tune of Tubthumping by Chumbawumba:

Michelle fell down
And Sarah won the gold
And miss snitchy bitch gets the bronze.

My poorly written and poorly sourced story was about the rivalry between Michelle Kwan and Sarah Hughes from the 2002 Olympics.

Sorry folks.

But there’s so much added drama to Olympics stories, you’ll have to forgive me if I get them mixed up. [http://www.eonline.com/news/906976/10-most-emotional-figure-skating-olympic-moments-of-all-time](http://www.eonline.com/news/906976/10-most-emotional-figure-skating-olympic-moments-of-all-time)

Underage teenagers getting drunk and having sex with other underage teenagers isn’t really a big deal.

Also - define ‘underage’. Different countries have different rules. The disgusting part is when the very people who are supposed to care for them take advantage.

OK. Where? Are you quoting a real study, or “general knowledge” or a “documentary” defined as when Mickey tells Rocky “Women weaken the legs”?

We’re late enough in the thread that jokes are possible. But the Moral Panic, now compounded with the Larry Nasser debacle, coupled with added drama, leaves us short on information that I guess the O.P. still wants.

Never bothered me. In fact, I always masturbated before a race and always did well.

Weirded out the others on the starting line, though.

With which bit of ‘I recall reading somewhere’ are you having difficulty understanding? If I could remember where I read it I would have cited it.

I think Mickey was talking about women weakening _mens_’ legs, not their own.
