I’d be curious about how the other half lives, but I’m not sure I’d want to do it for a full year. If it were only a few days or weeks then I’d say yes. ---

I think in my younger days it would have been interesting and fun to try being a dude for a year. Now that I’m old and set in my ways, not so much. ---

The only reason I can think of that I wouldn’t try it for a year is the whole marriage thing; it’s one thing to switch teams for a while, it’s quite another thing to ask your spouse to live with it. However, in this magical world we’re talking about, Mr. Athena and I agree that we’d both switch. It’d be fun. Heck, we could be a reality show. I’m curious why people wouldn’t do it for a limited time. Seems totally fun, and would give a ton of insights into the other half of the world. ---

I’m not gay, and I don’t have the slightest interest in experiencing a female perspective. I have a wife and three kids. What the hell would I want to turn into a woman for? ---

It would be awkward and annoying to have to learn all the things that a man of my age knows already. Instead of being fun it would be a chore. I would love to be able to switch sexes whenever I wanted, because I think it would be fun to have the different experiences that a male experiences both physically (more strength, different expression of sexual pleasure, more body heat, etc) and socially, but the one-year lease? Hell no! Being a woman does mean that I don’t always have the same opportunities in terms of ‘making my way in the world’, but it allows me a certain closeness with other people, and an ability to be emotional without being seen as weak. It also allows me to live amongst women (for instance, my hall at college is single-sex) which I have always preferred to living amongst men, 'cause men are smelly and suchlike. ---

I think it would be awesome and if it were possible I’d sign up in a heartbeat. Funny, those same reasons would be why I’d \*want \*to see how it is as a man. I don’t like closeness with people and I am not one to wear my emotions on my sleeve. ---

As [a crossdreser](http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?t=504806), I would love to have a shot at being a woman for a stretch. I could walk around in women’s clothing anywhere and no one would bat an eye. Plus I could finally squeeze into those size six outfits I can only dream about. The only problem is that as the above thread shows, I also have a side of me that enjoys being a guy. I fear that if I had an entire year as a woman, that I’d get really tired of being a woman sometimes. Maybe a three month lease instead?
