Sex-Specific Illnesses?

So then would such a girl undergo a hysterectomy, or can this be treated with medicine?

IIRC most multiple sclerosis, lupus and scleroderma cases are female.

Wouldn’t the original disorder make surgery highly undesireable? I would have thought that if the case was extreme then use of birth control would be effective enough (it’s not actually necessary to continue having periods when using the pill).

Desmoplastic small round cell tumor is usually found in males, and only very rarely in females.

Cluster headaches rarely appear in females.

Yes. Women have twice the risk of depression as men do.

I’d think that, once you get past the initial risks of surgery, hysterectomy would be the safest approach in this case. True, the Pill can cause periods to cease, but “breakthrough” bleeding can still occur.

Elective surgery on a hemophilliac is quite possible. It involves having lots of blood on standby, as well as Factor VIII for necessary clotting afterward. Still not undertaken lightly.

Although more women suffer from these than men, enough men suffer from them that I would hesistate to label them “sex specific”

Polycarp, and others who may be interested, there is a tool for designers that will give you some idea of what it’s like to have color blindness: Color Oracle. Comes in Windows, Mac, and Linux versions, so pretty much anyone can use it; simulates deuteranopia, protanopia, and tritanopia.

“Turner’s syndrome is only seen in females.”

nitpick, some mosaic Turner’s folks (X/XY) can be phenotypically male (others with the X/XY genotype present as Turner’s-affected females). Although it’s called “mixed gonadal dysgenesis”, it’s still a form of Turner’s syndrome.
