With apologies to Bette, Some say love, it is a river that drowns the tender lamb. Some say love, it is a shearer that cuts your sheep and dam Some say love, it is a sweater, an endless colored wool. Hal say love, it is a sheep, and ewe, he will fill full. It’s the herder, afraid of stubble, that never learns to shear. It’s the sheep, afraid of dying, that never takes a pap smear. It’s the goat who won’t be taken, who runs from Bristol. And the livestock, afraid of rupture, that never sees Hal’s pistol When the night has been too lonely, and the ranch is rich with swine, And ewe think that love is only for the lucky and the ovine, Just remember in the meadow, far away from Ms Bo Peep, Lies the lamb, that with the Hal’s love, in the spring becomes The Sheep ---
