# Sexism, homophobia and assholes! A.K.A The new manager requirements at Wendy's

I have been working at Wendy’s for almost a year now. I love my job very much and being a supervisor is a challage everyday. I have been there long enough to gave gained the respect of my coworkers and many of them have become close friends to me. I feel very comfortable with them and dont feel the need to hide the fact that I am gay from them. I dont go around preaching it to the world but if it comes up I dont hide it.
So when a new co-manager came into our store I didnt feel the need to hide things but to be on the safe side I chose to get to know the man before making any vocal “gay” comments. One of the first nights we closed together he drove me home. In the car he told me about the store he had been transfered from, which was a store I had worked at for a month. The general manager there is an openly gay man who everyone loves. So my new co-manager starts to go on about how he transfered out of that store because he didnt like working with “a gay.” (What he didnt know is that I knew he was transfered because he was such a shitty manager he was put on probation.) He went on about how he didnt like gays, but I just sat and listened because I didnt want him to freak and drop me off in the middle of nowhere. I let it all slide, waiting to see if he’d say anything else.
Then today I was MIC (manager in charge.) I was making water cups while a man (obviously gay) was being served behind me. When he received his order he simply said, “Thank you very much, have a nice day” to mister “queer hater” who then turned around and whispered to me, “Fucking Fag!” Now this really upset me. How can someone be so ignorant and close-minded? What did the guy do that was worth being refered to in such a mannor? Do I make a formal complaint because he is making my working environment uncomfortable?
This friday I have big plans to give him a shock. In my mind just saying I’m gay wont hit him hard enough. My girlfriend will be in town visiting and I plan to bring her by work. It just happens to be a day that he works and I plan on kissing her (very passionatly) infront of him… I am dying to see his reaction.
I just dont see his attitude as fair. What makes him any better then anyone else? Doesnt he think that his comments are hurtfull? I’ll update this weekend to tell you all about his reaction…

He’ll probably be more aroused by that than anything. Homophobes are often inconsistent in their views between gay guys and lesbians.
And yes, the co-manager sounds like a walking duckfart.

Upside, I see you’re in Montreal. Can you tell me what Wendy’s you work at? Rather than having you do something that could be interpreted as inappropriate behaviour while on the job, I think you should let me call aaaaaaaaaaall my gay friends so we can all come and smooch passionately.
Alternatively, you could contemplate a human rights complaint, or just complain to his superior, but i think the above idea is funner 🙂

Sadly, and despite increasing tolerance and understanding of homosexuality, there are PLENTY of people out there who are openly homophobic. I think they are afraid of things that are different. These people will never change. They are normally the kind of people who are intollerant of all manner of things, not just gays.
I say you go with the plan to bring your girlfriend along. It will be worth it just to see his reaction.

Nice to meet a fellow Montrealer **Matt\_mcl** , and a gay one at that. I do think thats a funny idea. I could see him freaking out and having a heartattack… hmmmm, maybe thats a good idea.
I am going to talk to the GM at his old store and see what he thinks. He, being an far more experienced queer than me, might be able to let me know how the “powers that be” a.k.a the district manager, will react.
Oh yeah, and to answer your question about what store I work at, I’m at the one on Peel Street, just past the HMV. Hope to see you around!

UDA: Just make sure there aren’t any clauses in your terms of employment that forbid passionate kissing while on the job. You want to get the homophobe fired, not give him grounds to fire you.
And I do hope he gets fired. And can’t get another job. And is forced to take roles in gay porn films to keep food on the table.

just to set everyones worries to rest, I dont work on friday I am just going in to see my friends and have them meet my girlfriend (who is a fellow doper) so there is no worry of being fired.

The battle continues. When I was preparing for my wedding I took my new stepson to the tux shop as he was going to give away the bride, his mom. He’s 25 but acts 14 a good portion of the time. We needed to get him a black vest and I suggested something with a black on black paisley which I thought looked pretty sharp.
“I’ll look gay.”
All I could do was look at him and say “I’m wearing a paisley vest, a red one.” I considered mentioning there would be several actual gay people at the wedding including my brother, one cousin, the organist and his partner, the soloist and her parter, the president of our church council, etc. etc. but realized there was nothing constructive that could come from it. I don’t believe he’s hostile like the duckfart - I like that - Wendy’s manager but that’s how intolerance starts.

That kind of attitude is inappropriate on the job period. Any job. Regardless of anyone’s sexual orientation. You could be the straigtest, most butch guy around and it still would be inappropriate.
You did not make manager by making wrong choices, so you would know better (I am still not a manager of anything). But inappropriate remarks like that are uncalled for. I say call him on it. Don’t tell him your gay, that asshole needs not know. But call him on it in a professional manner, like the sexual harassment videos so many companies make. Talk to a trusting superior for advise.
Or just pull his pants down and stick a burned weenie up his butt!

I don’t consider myself a homophobe. But when I think of two girls passionately kissing, I feel funny in my pants. When I think of two guys…I would rather not think about that.

**Roadrash** , very few people like this guy but its more on the level of his work habits. Among the other managers no one likes him due to the fact that he tried to pit us all against one another. There is really only one other gay person at my store and the new co-manager makes fun of him but not about being gay.

Hi, **Guin**! _waving so hard I almost tip over_ It is I, **Upside\_Down\_Amber’s** Doper girlfriend! Luckily for both of us, she doesn’t mind me flirting with **Davebear** and I don’t mind her spelling. 😉 So the SDMB can only bring us closer together.
As for my sweetie’s horrible awful Manager-guy, I will probably do something terrible to him when I meet him, like flash him my thong. I mean, put a Killer Frog in his fanny pack. Dammit, I’m still getting used to this being mean to people thing. I spent so long being nice (and slutty)! But I guess being in love means never having to say you’re sorry, or something like that. So I can be mean all I want (but only to evil people) now that I have Cory and I don’t have to worry, cause I’m in love. Hear that? I’m in luuuuuuuurve!
And as for you two **matt** and **scott** , there better damn well be a Dopereal in August, cause if there isn’t, I’ll… uh… unleash that Killer Frog I already mentioned.
