Couple questions about that second link… 1. So you’re telling me that I can waltz into a formal government function, then, while someone is speaking and everyone else is quiet, heckle the speaker for the entire goddam time that person is speaking, and not only will _no one_ make the slightest attempt to stop me, but no one will call me out on my unbelievably rude and disruptive behavior afterward? I can act like a obnoxious slob incapable of the tiniest modicum of decorum while fairly powerful government members are trying to get work done, and get off completely scott free? Wow. I mean, I can understand some third-rate awards show getting caught off guard one time, but a flippin’ government assembly can’t keep things in order, what _can?_ (On a related note, how’d you like to have voted for the guy and then see him act like that?) It’s like the big flap over sexual harrassment in the early 90’s, and all I could think was it took goddam _federal legislation_ to make highly paid white collar professionals stop acting like drunk frat boys on company time. Truly remarkable. 1. “You should get married”?? “You probably can’t bear a child”??? THAT’S the best these numbnuts can come up with in two-thousand-effin’-fourteen? Jeeziz. I hear over and over and over about how “traditional” or “old-fashioned” Japan is. “There’s a higher percentage of people in their 60’s than anywhere else in the world!” Do the math. A 69-year-old today was born in 1945. **After** the bitter fighting of World War 2, **after** the Great Depression, **after** comfort women and bushido and seppuku and lovers’ suicide and daimyos and shoguns and blaming drownings on rogue kappas. A person in his or her 60’s _now_ has experienced _none_ of that crap. It’s not like your internal odometer flips over and you suddenly turn into Lord Tokugawa. For crying out loud, sumo recently had a massive bribery scandal, just like any other non-time-honored, non-ritualized sport, nerd culture is bigger than ever, and _nobody gives a flaming bag of natto about the royal family_. Life goes on whether you like it or not. (Don’t even get me started on CNN’s commenters. Gah. I could start a conversation about the British Open, and within five minutes the discussion will have turned to alien symbols on Mars.) ---

I doubt he waltzed in - he probably walked. It’s the Tokyo Metropolitan Assembly. The speech-giver and the heckler are both members, and presumably both were supposed to be there. ---

Interesting, because where I come from, parent and child parking spaces are mostly labelled “parent and child” or have a picture of a stroller. ---
